How far have you flown from Base Poll

I have been trolling through the vast amounts of info on this forum comparing UHF systems and various other systems and kept wondering what the maximum range people have gotten whilst flying airborne so i started this poll.

I am sure that if you are getting decent range people would like to know what equipment you are using so please let us know so we all can be jealous.

Cheers,

Elaborating, that should be 1 direction, max distance obtained, before turning round and flying back to your ground station in the same flight/session (not the round trip distance)

A very modest 0 - 2km here! ...If I actually see 2km, I will be very proud!

2km run

Attached is a photo I took when 4200 feet away from my base station when the video feed started to get a bit weak. I continued on for another 2000 feet before the video feed was too broken up for me to fly well.

System:

Tx: 900 Mhz with 3dbi rubber duck from dpcav.com
Rx: 900 Mhz 4 channel with 8 dbi patch antenna from dpcav.com
Camera: DPC171 low light camera from dpcav.com
OSD: Remzibi poor man's OSD with GPS from Remzibi here on RCG
Airplane: Scratchbuild dual boom glider from my living room

2km with Thomas LRS, 900Mhz VTx and 8db patch. Turned around at the 2km mark as I was getting nervous... No glitches or video degradation at that range though.

Video Tx 900Mhz 500mW, Patch on the Rx side.

6 km here but I have recently made some improvements to my setup and anticipate much more daring flights soon. (I discovered using channel 8 on my lawmate works so much better then channel 1 )

1 watt 2.4 lawmate video on channel 1
14 dBi patch
Thomas LRS

6 km fpv flight (22 min 48 sec)

Yes !

I have flown ## KM from base and back The key is to work up to it slowly, dont try a huge record flight much further than previous flights. Also make sure to do an occasional 360 to make sure you have both video and RC control, signals have a nasty habbit of being good going away and then going very bad once you turn 180 degrees to come back

Good advice. I noticed the same problem. I now mount my TX in the nose which helps eliminate that problem.

Also a warning on banking. When out at a long distance make your banks gentle. Go to a 45 to 60 degree bank and you might find your video goes out mid turn.

I think there should be more variants on the poll, i'd devide 0-2km into 0-1 and 1-2 km. I've reached 1.3 km with 900 mhz vtx and vrx with stock antenas and the video started to fade out, so i turned back (and my video signal got much worse as Jett said it would be).ut i felt pretty confident with my radio range, there was no glitches or anything, i believe my radio link could go 2-2.5 kilometers if the plane stays high like 200 meters or higher. My radio is futaba 7C 2.4 Ghz with 607 reciever
