I was thinking the same thing... The strap should be on the bottom IMHO

the banding is installed top and bottom....one strip on eagh side...in the end view of foil, you can barely see...randy.

new wing maiden..

well with the snow flying here this morning...no accumulation...i snuck out this afternoon to maiden the model with its new wing....it was no big event, but i was very curious how it performed..it flew exactly like the small version, and this will be my new camera plane. still got a little cg tweaking to do, but overall, outside the crummy landing, as i stalled it in... the model flies great. i plan on filming the wing now using coverrite microlite, and throwing on some airbrush color, for visibility...here is the extremely boring maiden video if anyone wants to see. randy.
maiden (7 min 43 sec)

Congratulations! It flies beautifully!

I couldn't tell if it stalls straight forward or tip stalls. I don't remember if you built in washout in the wing, and I didn't see any stall tests done.

Nicely done!

Vince, i programmed 2 deg washout....that was my first landing with that wing.....it flared up to hard, and stalled the landing...it was my fault...the model was flying a lil tailheavy. next flight should be better. then after i get flying rite, i will install my camera...randy.

realtimer, that's great advice, but my camera is going to hang down, and point forward....and if i mount to the top, the prop will be in the way, since i will have camera pointing down a little. on my magpie model, they made it to shoot from the side, and since i started to shoot forward, the photos are way better...i donno why thou. randy.

thanks a bunch ira....i remember you from the old magpie days....i have been also following your "shot-getter" thread, and that looks great, what your doing with that plastic bending....very clever. as of now im still not sure about my big 12oz. camera...i still intend to fly that big lipo that weighs 14.1oz. if it can haul that will be good...if not, its a bigger motor, or a smaller camera. the motor i have on it now is 3oz. and 200watts....i got a hacker that weighs 2.7oz. and has 260watts. the new wing is a 60in. clark-y with a 10.5 constant chord. or i will have time this winter to scale the whole model again. lols i have fifty inches of wire to mess with, and the fuse cuts out in 5 mins on the phlatprinter...so remaking it isn't a biggie..randy.

wing done..

finished the wing today....took a penny to balance..and with the micro-lite the wing picked up .9oz. the total weight of the wing is at 8.1oz. the film really made it strong feeling, well worth the extra ounce, in my opinion...all that has to be done now is install the camera mount, and fly a payload...i have a 260watt i might use instead of the 200watt one used in maiden. just so everyone knows and i have said it before...i suck at covering, but the function its sound, lols. the wing was done with one piece, including the tips, hence the wads, lols. to me its just a hunk of foam to haul a camera...although i wish it came out better thou. randy.

with 200watts, i felt the model was a lil underpowered...i stole a 400watt motor from a nother model...its 1.5oz. heavier. i figured i will want the extra power carrying the payload.. tomorrow i am going to retest the covered wing along with the new power set-up. then it will be payload time...peace, randy.
