Aerotech Spitfire

I just picked up an Aerotech International Spitfire off of eBay.

54" wingspan, weight is supposed to be 5.5lbs

gonna convert to electric of course. Not sure if there's going to be any way to lighten the thing but I'll be looking for ways as I go.

From what I can determine Aerotech International went out of business 10 (or more?) years ago.

Haven't found much info on this kit. Just wondered if any of you guys have any experience with AI models?

Kit looks like a great example of foam and wood construction.

Basic fuelage is built with balsa slab sides and then foam decking sheeted with some type of wood I am not familar with. It's not balsa.

ABS plastic cowling, etc.

The wings are foam core with same type of wood sheeting that's approx 1/32" think. Some of the wing sheeting has de-bonded from the foam core. I'm using good old wood glue to tack it back down.

all parts are pretty much pre-cut and bagged by assembly.

Anyone built one?

flown one?

wow I am surprised no one has any experience with these kits.

I guess I'm on my own

Maybe there's a reason they went out of business....

I'll get some build pics up here.
