T-maxx qusetion?

I am thinking of buying a t-maxx and have two questions. One is when they say that a gallon of fuel is run through the engine is the engine still worth it? And two is the reverse unit good?

Depends and there is really no way of knowing unless you know the seller.. You can easily put a gallon of fuel thru and engine and its fine.. I know people who have run many gallons thru the engine and they still run good... On the other hand I've seen engines that have problems after a couple of tanks in them.. Its a crapshoot when buying used... In my experience on used engines.. expect the worst and hope for the best...

As for reverse.. I have it in my T-maxx and love it.. Its the 3.3 trans so its not going to have some of the issues as the 2.5 trans although both work esentially the same... Which T-maxx are you looking at? 2.5 or 3.3.....

I cannot decide, If I get the 2.5 it is cheaped but less power. If I get the3.3 it is more money but bigger and more power. I am leaning toward the 3.3.

I answered the question, but I will answer again... Its available with reverse... It uses the opti-drive which when setup properly works very well... for bashing its a must, for racing its not needed....

Thank you. Do you think I should get the 3.3 or 2.5?

Hey I was looking through my rc magizine and saw an add for a ofna 1/12 scale jammin st and I got a intrested. I looked it up on line and I am likeing it. It comes in a ARTR form with many aluminumk parts. I was already thinking of getting a new 3channel radio and was wondering what you think of that truck. Is it better then a t-maxx?

Its a different kind of truck...there is no comparison between the 2.. the t-maxx is a 1/10 MT really closer to 1/8th scale while the Jammin is a 1/12 stadium truck... its about half the size of the tmaxx.. Its not a basher truck as its so small where the t-maxx can be used anywhere... I am not a fan of the smaller scale trucks anyway.. can't see the appeal of them personally.. my friend has a few and he can't run his when I am running my larger r/c's.. If we crash, its not going to be pretty..

The thing I like about the ofna is that it comes with many metal parts including all metal diffs plus aluminum shocks.

Almost all the trucks made today have metal diffs.. not the case but the gears.... I can't think of any popular MT that doesn't... Aluminum shocks are nice, but I've run the plastic ones on my T-maxx for years and they are fine... metal parts unless they are needed in high stress areas (not always a good thing) just add weight and do nothing for performance... just add bling...

You are missing the biggest point here.. They are not comparable trucks... the Ofna is less than half the size of the T-maxx... for bashing that will be a liability... Its also 2wd not 4wd so your running options will be severely limited.. you can't run on grass or off road... just groomed tracks and pavement... It really depends on what you are doing with it.. My advice to you is go look at the Ofna or another 1/12 scale in person before you buy one...

Thank you for the great response. I see now. I will still go with the t-maxx, just wanted to see what you guys thought about the ofna.

P.S. the ofna does have 4 wheel drive though.

Used will be a bit cheaper, but you have to know what you are doing and what you are getting... My latest maxx was used, but I had a new engine, trans and diffs to put in.. the rest of the truck was fine... It cost me more this way, but I knew that ahead of time.. most of the ebay used or on this site are OK... you want to see pics, lots of them, but expect the engine to be suspect.. I don't believe anyone who says it has 3 tanks thru it.. just BS... New is new... I would have purchased a new one, but in my case, it didn't make sense since I was going to change half the truck anyway... I did the same for my TT brushless bike... changed 50% of it before I ever ran it, so why pay for new... the rest was fine...
If you know what you are doing, used will be a cheaper route, if not sure... get new.... can't go wrong there...
