My understanding is that there needs to be a sufficient amount of resistance so it can snap in place when closed. Fishing line doesn't have elasticity for that. Thin rubber band would seem to work effectively if it could be rigged correctly.

Hmmm... If you look at post 109 of the pic of the gear it looks like when the gear goes up it just pulls a string up with it that is attached to the door. It looks like if you cut the string to the right length it would work. What is the door hinged with?

Yeah mine didn't come with any and I don't see how they work or how it's rigged.

It looks like your pic in post 692, that the doors are hinged with small springs. Which would answer how the doors are kept open without the string. In the post 109 pic, it looks like there is a small screw that holds the mono on one side, and is strung across the top of the gear strut when the gear is in the up position.

Right. The hinges I guess offer the elasticity and there is added linkage on the gear itself that has the sole purpose of keeping the gear doors open when the gear is down. So the monofillament line must clamp down tightly when the doors close?

I don't know...I'm a "need photos or video to get it" kind of guy.

Mine didn't have anything attached to the doors either.

David,

It seems like you are leaning towards this model after all.

I just wish you the best dealing with BH and after carefully watching this thread and all the posts, I would need to change out the struts, or retracts or both for my tastes.

As far as the Doors, I would hinge them and provide a light weight plastic mechanizim to close the doors and made from a CNC machine

For those that do not have access to CNC then, I would at least hinge and use the light weight fishing line.

For me, it is just too much moding.

For any of you with the mono line, would you mind taking close up shots of how it is attached to the inside of the gear area as well as the doors? That will help those of us out that need to rig our own setup...Thanks!

It looks to me that once the wheels retract that the doors would close behind because of the springs...I will have to test it!

That's backwards... The springs open the doors, the line pull them shut. I know, because I've got one door stuck open (clue got in the hinge and caused the mono to pull off the door) and two doors that won't open until I drop the gear (I'm hoping that's all it is).

That's what you guys get for buying the green ones! My silver has monofilament...

I'll post some pics as soon as I get the "test" wiring done... Going to plug it all up to see what works and what doesn't, before I go any further.
