Test of JXD 990 high res in FPV, bad and blury picture.

Camera DX201 DPS

Video recorded in 720x576
Frame rate: 11.11111

Edit:

Just found out when i start recording without Video Goggles on, the fram rate is 20

when googels are on, i get 11.11111

The latest test went bad, do not use jxd 990 for recording fpv.

It's the best available for the price.. but it's far to be the best hardware to record FPV flights. I've used it alot this summer, with a perfect sun light.. whenever the light conditions changed i've had to stop to use it, simply because it try to modify the brightness/contrast and you cannot adjust these values manually, and low light + heavy compression makes your videos totally crap.
On a related subject, i've looked around for the best recording device, the truth is there: there's nothing (neither the newest digital records) that can beat a miniDV camera, so instead of wasting money around (ie: "the piano like" recorder) ...buy a cheap used midiDV camera with A/V IN and the picture quality wouldn't be an issue anymore (the price to pay is that you won't have ready to go videos.. you need to import em via firewire, but it's worth it).

It's handy for quick recording without hassle of tapes, but agree minidv is the way to go if you want best quality.

I find it seems to record better with the lower res cameras.... My pixim doesn't record too well either.

Cheap cam recording....

Look at the recorders megalist thread (use the search) they are all listed there... whenever u'll find a good one (possibly used), that ok, the difference is about the optics, but you don't really need to use it, you just have to record via video-in, so any of these with A/V in would be ok.

I've got a JXD990 and i don't think its that bad. Looks great on the device itself and on the computer as well, the problem comes in when you try to upload to Vimeo or Youtube and comrpess it. Looks not so good after that. I like mine, plus i used it when i travel to watch movies and listen to music.

Agreed !
A few months ago I retired my JXD and got a used canon mini-dv for AU$120.
Yes it is a bit heavier and bulkier but the recording quality is by far superior to the JXD.
Wobby's mini-dv megalist is the go.

the other videos is recorded by my old 4-5 years old mustek pwr and it only support 640x480

Then you see the diffrence, but i will take a new test soon.

Flopp,
There's no doubt a video camera with AV In is much better at recording but i used the JXD as my video screen (I don't have goggles yet) so it worked great for me. Using it as a recorder as well was just convenient. But i will post my latest video later today.

Here is my latest flight with the JXD990 in Full Mode. Not the greatest but it works for what i'm looking for. If i come across a great deal for a DV camera with AV IN then i'll pick up but for now i'm satisfied.

Easy Star FPV 23 Oct 09 (4 min 32 sec)

Yeah, that is terrible. Not sure why i'm getting better results but if mine looked like that then i would be getting rid of it as well. Sorry.

Hey gromit where do you fly? I'm a member of Charles County RC I'm new to all this and would love to see your JXD990. I wear glasses and would like to use goggles but am not a fan of contact lenses. I'm thinking of doing the same thing you are.
