Based on the Juz backpack ground station design he posted, I decided to try one for myself. I used an old laptop/camera bag I was no longer using which worked out great. The bottom camera compartment holds all the wires and the Eagle Eyes along with my goggles and spare batteries. The Middle slot holds my radio then doubles for the patch holder once setup. The laptop slot holds the patch and tripod VRxs. Take it all out and setup in a couple of minutes. Very portable!

Plus the backpack stands up by itself because of the bottom camera pocket, nice!

2 Cheap Digital VRx
1 Omni for 1280
1 Patch tuned to 1280
Eagle Eyes Diversity
Fatshark Base goggles
Dx8 RC Radio w/Chainlink UHF LRS
FPV Japan SD Card DVR
All powered by 3000Mah 3s battery, except the DVR.

Here are some pics:

That's pretty cool. I think I'm going to have to setup something like that. Are you just propping the patch up against the leg of the tripod?

Actually because of the firm base of the backpack it stands up on its own and I just prop the patch up inside the middle sleeve. It works pretty well and is very portable not to mention a quick setup and teardown.

I finally found a mounting solution I'm pretty happy with: two cafeteria trays that mate together pretty securely

AP/FPV Witespy VC-550 Naza FC Ground Station

Here's my GS. I wanted something I can just grab and go for Arial Photography without any setup to mess with. I have a pair of Headplay goggles I use but find this setup is better for my solo AP/FPV needs.

Neck worn Ground Station:
9" Sylvania with internal battery(Walmart.com) LCD monitor
Dual 900mhz RX with breezecom fiberglass Omni antenna (this antenna seem to pick up signal better in builds and through obstructions) and 900mhz scanner antenna(this antenna purchased at radio shack seems to get better range)
RangeVideo diversity
3 3c 2200mah lipo for RX x2 and diversity
Plexiglas base
Weight 5.5lbs

Looks a bit heavy to carry around your neck for any longer period of time.
I am also building a fully portable GS since I am not a fan of the suite case/tri pod versions.

Does your 9" screen have static or blue screen? It looks nice and small.

The screen stays with static as long and the signal is being sent. Once signal stops the screens show black screen. It stays with the static to where I have flown with a very bad picture but still able to see where I was. This monitor has a built in battery that runs about 6 hours on a single charge.

It weighs right at 5.5lbs. It's not bad at all around the neck. I have a shoulder harness for it but it's a little more involved putting on. With my flights lasting 10-15 min each I like the quick on off and mobility of this setup. I fly a mixture of LOS and FPV. Also makes the AP very easy when you can see the picture your recording in he gopro Liveview. I love to fly over and around building and trees where at first approach is LOS then once out of view I switch to FPV. This makes it lots easier flying in unfamiliar areas and not being restricted to open fields.
