We normally use z-bends everywhere, but you could use ez-links on your aileron servo arm to make them easier to set. They add a little weight but it may be worth it.

i dont think 2 mini ez connectors would be much of a weight penalty at all

You would be surprised. Saving a few of those everywhere, added up with little tiny other things you do...saves a good amount of weight.

How are you doing this?

Here's what I do:

Cut Carbon rods to length for both ailerons.
Make 4 Z-Bends, total length of the piece after the Z-bend about 1" long
Cut some heat shrink so that it will slide over the carbon and the Z-bend rod.
Slide the heat shrink over the carbon rod, then over the Z-bend rod, making sure the Z-bend is just off the edge of the carbon (on both sides of the carbon rod).
Shrink the heat shrink.
Pull 1 Z-bend rod out of 1 side of each carbon rod.
Insert 1 Z-bend into your servo arm, and one into the control horn.
Turn on the transmitter/airplane
Center your aileron servo
Slide the Z-bend that was removed from the heat shrink, back into the heat shrink where it was originally.
The heat shrink does not hold the carbon rod/Z-bends steady, you have to glue them, so shorten/lengthen the rod as needed.
Glue over each side of the carbon rod where the Z-bends attach.
Voila, perfectly centered ailerons.

I have to agree with Seth, I was a believer in the plastic ez links as well, but then I tried the z bend method on a vrolet about 2 yrs ago, and was amazed at just how much they actually can weigh. the z bend method works, just have to make sure the carbon is cut right, I had cut the carbon 2 short once before at 11:00pm before a day of flying with no hobby shops open on sunday.

I lock the surface in place using these simple jigs, that way they're always centered when you heat shrink the last piece. The strange material is something called balsa that we used in another life.

I usually use a similar set of jigs, but mine are just made of 3mm depron with the center shim crushed down a little so it is a tight fit. They do make linkages easier to set up.

I too use a jig very much like this one, I still ended up with a slight (less than 1/32") sag in my surfaces. I need to make a new jig to allow for this or find a better way of bending my Z-bends to make them a little closer fitting.

If you mean milled, it makes it too light. This plane is at its optimum weight unmilled with a stock setup, between 5 and 5.5 oz. Trust me... I've flown them all the way down to around 4 oz... haha.

I've actually found the surfaces to sag slightly when I use a jig. I don't use one any more, there's normally enough friction in the heat shrink that keeps the rod from moving, so I get it centered, with no sag.

Got my MX2 built today, waitning on motor and esc to arrive. I plan on going to the JR indoor festival next weekend so I might have to let Seth or RJ wring it out

Nah, you have to wring it out yourself with us!

I've got 2 more on the build table right now, so I might just be bringing 4 MX2's with me...
