Fun Fun Fun

Finished my MX2 because of all the rain we've had here in CA. Got a couple of quick test flights and man this plane is fun!!! I have to move the control rods in on the servo arm, the throws are crazy. I've had to turn all my end points down to 60-70 to keep it from pushing the control surfaces off the plane. If I remember right, lowering end point will cause a loss in resolution, right? Seems to feel kinda jerky around center (even with 70% expos).

AUW 5oz.

Glad you enjoyed it!! You usually want to use a hole on the servo arm that allows you to use at least 100% ATV (130ish is better). Back your aileron throw down a bit... you want just enough throw for the spade to hit the wingon the down-moving aileron. Too much more throw than that tends to add so much drag that it will decrease roll-rate.

Thanks, I'll definitely back the throws off. Kinda funny to see so much throw, so I had to snap a pic of it.

Not to mention the differential makes it bobble when you roll...

I have been dubbing around with my MX, but I handed it to a very talented pilot (and plane designer) last weekend and he loved it. He said it did "exactly what he asked it to do." He was exremely impressed with this plane. He did 8 point hesitation rolls that were unbelievably precise, rolling circles, hesitation rolling circles, inverted square loops, knife edges up, down and around the (very small) gym, hovers, a hover where he "hung" it on the gym wall and skittered about for a while, and about everything else a good pilot might do, ending, of course with a hover around his body and a snatch. All and all he put on a great show for all involved.

I should point out that my plane has the (great) Hacker A10-9L motor, it also has the cheap Tower Pro servos and a cheap Tower Pro ESC, so even with less than top notch equipment, this fellow was very impressed.

I have had my MX2 going for about three weeks now and I must say it is a blast! I have not had it indoors yet, but the hayfield does fine for now.

Setup: Futaba S3114s all around, rimfire250 for the powerplant and electrifly 8A esc.

I took a gamble on the rimfire not knowing much about it or seeing any other post on how it does. Well I can hover around midstick and pull out with ease so the power is there. As for other performance issues I hadn't found any yet. It will pull the Mx2 around with authority. The specs for the rimfire 250 is pretty much identical to the AXI recommended. Price also swayed me in the rimfire direction as well, have to keep the budget in mind!

I would like to try the hacker one day but for now I'm having a blast with this setup, thats whats its about anyway... just having fun

RJ maybe I'll run in to ya at the gym in Eden, NC I seen you fly there this past july 4.

Having been to my first indoor flying session today with my UM 4-site, I'm hooked already!

So i've just ordered the MX-2, my setup will be the Hacker A10-9L with X12 ESC, 2xS60's and 1 S75 flown on a 8x4.3 prop on 2s 350, AR6110E RX.

Cannot wait!

i would recomend you put a better servo on your aielerons, i had a bunch of s75's and they had a very bad jittering problem so i had to cut them out of my plane and now they just collect dust in a drawer. i have the eflight version of that servo on the aielerons of my osiris and it does not center at all.

you would be much happier if you put either a jr188 on your aielerons, not the 185.

or the futaba servo that Rj recomends on the front page, it acually has more power than the jr188 and if its good enough for Rj its good enough for anybody.

good luck with your new plane buddy you cant go wrong with the mx2.

My son Jon and I just put a MX2 together using four JR S188 servos. They work great with no jitter like the S60s. Four of the S188 is about the same weight as three S3114/S3154 servos. Easier to dial in the ailerons that way.

Here's a video of me flying my MX2 over the R/C track I work at. Kind of tight, but still fun. I have a park 300 and 3s lipo's on it, so it isn't quite as light as I would like it, but still flies fantastic!

Using the Futaba S3114 servo on the aileron, do the stock arms produce enough throw? If not can anyone point me in the right direction of the right arms to use. Thanks.
