Project Dyn-E-Max/ TJ A-4

Looks like my other thread has been removed (not by me)
My Dyn-E-Max Scorpion has arrived (3 1/2 weeks from the day I ordered it) While Fred may not be all that great at PR and Communication... I must say that the machine work is top notch and the fan looks very nice. Over the next few days the swap will take place in my Tam Jets A-4. I have bought a new scale... the plan is to get a baseline reading off my DS-94 1521 2y setup. It's been awhile since I ran the numbers on it and my packs have broken in more. So I'll weigh the plane again, hit it on the Watt meter and see how many pounds thrust its making.

Then install the Dyn-E-Max and compare... I'm really interested to see what the amp/watts are at different throttle settings and compare them...1/2 , 3/4 and full throttle

All this will really mean nothing... the flight test will tell the tell
I'm not looking for a miracle. If it will fly close to the same as now, give about the same flight time and have a wonderful sound I'll be a happy camper.

I'll have video and some pictures to come in the next few days.
If all works well I plan to dull out the A-4 and weather it over the winter.
Hope to have it in the air Sunday

Ron

Couple teasers
Also was happy to see that the fan is lighter than advertised at 1 lb 14.6 oz
lighter than two pounds is pretty good

The machine work is perfect

I'll start work tomorrow

cool deal! cant wait to see how it goes for ya! and I'm sure your gonna anyway, but i'd say check sheer amps to watts even at mismatched throttle settings. that way ya know if one takes for example %62 throttle to match anothers %50 level, wht are the actual in and out comparo. that way you could also adjust throttle or expo to have a familiar throttle setting with new system.

Ron,

I got my fan unit today . Like you said the workmanship is great. I'm putting mine in a YA F-4. I'm still completing the build of the jet, so it will be awhile before I'll get it in the air. In the mean time I'll follow your progress and dream.

Hey Bobby can you post your build on the YA F4 I would love to see how that plane is done. Its a cheap airframe and looks like would do well on EDF.

Ron looking forward to hearing that thing bro!

I'll see what I can do. I've completed the tailfeathers and servos installation for them and I'm ready to move on to the wings. I've built several YA kits (P-47, Spitfire, etc.), but this is my first jet. I'm really happy with the quality of the kit. The reason I chose the F-4 is because it was a cheaper way for me to get my feet wet with the jets and it will do very well as an EDF. I built my last P-47 as an electric and I know it won't be my last. It's fast and it so cool to hear it go by and all you hear is a little prop noise.

Hi Ron
Be interesting to see how you compare the sound of this to the Stumax.
I emailed Fred about 2 weeks ago and haven't had any sort of reply....his product needs to be good if he's to sell many.

Glad you got it Ron

Lets be clear here though The fan is Tom Cook's Dynamax. The motor is Scorpion's. Only part that is Fred's is the center hub. Lets keep the credit where it is truly due. Fred does make a nice hub.

I know you will like it Ron I've been working with this fan for over a year now, and flying with them for more than 15 years! It has been the Ducted fan measuring stick for almost 20 years!
