The total stock set up will not like throttle under 80% because of power issues. If your governor is trying to work under 80 that could add to this issue.
Also 500L motor comes down pretty hot. I thought that was normal, the guy I fly with flies pretty soft 3D, but his 600 L type motor is really warm after a flight.

Thanks mhills, that sounds like my problem. Get rid of the gov, go 12T and I should get a few 2600mah packs also.

Do you think I should I go with 12T, and no governor with the 500L motor and 2600 packs Open to making my helis fly better for sure! Or just tell me how to set this 500 up, I'll do it. I'm kind of operating on my own for the most part when it comes to the finer points of setting up a 3D 500.

I would keep everything you have! Start with the 12 and see how it works!

My HK500 with the 12t and clone 500l was a great flying machine. Smooth and graceful in the air.

Yep.. a leaderhobby quality. Be very careful with that head. Also dont forget to be some stickers on the flybar paddles to cover those holes

Without governor it's 0-35-55-70-80-90-100 in normal mode and 100-90-80-72.5-80-90-100 in idle up. Tail holds perfectly even in a hard climb. Hover is between 80% and 85% throttle.

Set it to 85% flat throttle curve with the governor and the tail would kick on a hard climb.

I was thinking the same. Gov would be like running a flat curve which would provide a more constent HS.

I'm pretty sure I know exactly what's going on, the governor is lagging behind the change in pitch. It only happens if you instantly bang the stick from hover to full climb. If you soften it a bit it doesn't happen. Unlike an FBL governor an ESC governor can't see collective changes as they happen, it can only react after the fact when the RPM drops.

Another odd thing is that the head runs about 100-150rpm slower with the YEP 80A than it did with the Plush 60A. I calibrated the throttle multiple times to be sure that wasn't the problem. It just seems to run the motor slightly slower than the Plush did. On the other hand the batteries don't get as warm either.

With active freewheel mode on the motor will spin up and when it reaches midstick it'll slow down for an instant before speeding up again. This only happens once as it spins up, is this normal? This does not happen with freewheel mode off.

The whole point of a governor is that it won't lag behind the pitch

Motor may not like 85% curve at full pitch which may bog the motor and giving the tail kick

run the gov at 90% and see what happens

Looks "close" but not exact. I saw an EXI one that looks like this too (particularly the flybar). The difference between the Leaderhobby and mine are that where theirs is carbon fiber, mines aluminum. And where they have aluminum, I have plastic.

It's looking like in order to make this one safe and useable, I would end up spending the same as I would buying a better kit. Kinda think I have a fancy paper weight here.

The body and most parts would be "ok" to start off with. The questionable parts like plastic head should be replaced.

To me it looks like a few clone brands have made up your heli which is nothing new here.

The thing is though, the tail is perfect without the governor. It's only with the governor enabled that I get problems.

90% sort of defeats the purpose of running a governor in the first place as there's insufficient room to keep the headspeed constant. Might as well just drop a pinion and run an ungoverened flat 100%.
