Or you can set up your normal for 0, 85, 85, 85 and idle up 85, 85, 85, 85, 85 and so on, Or can you not do that with the newer governors?

You can, but I don't think I will be using the governor because it causes a nasty tail kick when you punch the collective hard.

hmm. sounds more like a gyro gain or pitch setup issue.

then again I have yet to mess with gov on ESC's

No, it's perfect without the governor enabled. Tail stays like it's held in a vice on a hard climb. With the governor enabled though it kicks out about 10 degees and then comes back as the as the governor tries to keep the headspeed constant. The problem seems to be that the governor isn't aware of pitch changes, it can only react to RPM changes after the fact. The governor in the Robird would probably not have this problem, but I'd need a single line RX for that.

You should get far less kick with a governor than without. That is one of the pluses of using a governor.

Sound like what I was getting in normal mode. what are your Th curves without the gov on?

I was thinking the same. Gov would be like running a flat curve which would provide a more constent HS.

Maybe the motor is bogging down as its not setup in its sweet spot when in gov mode???

Doh, sorry Ridge racer. this (posted earlier) graph is with the Align 500L motor and a 14T pinion. I installed it some time ago. I couldn't achieve 2600RPM with a 13T and good overhead, according to the CC software.

I'm not sure if I have too much cyclic or my batteries are weak, or poor collective management, hence the drop in rotor speed. Any opinions? Probably some of all the above.

Too many helis to keep track of.

eagle777....More than likely a combination of things. What is your setup again? For reference I have a Hobbymate HB3650 1700kv motor, 13t pinion, Hobbyking YEP80 ESC, and Nanotech 35c 6s2650mah packs. No puffing on the packs or bogging. For now I lowered my throttle curve so that at 0 pitch I should be about 2700rpm and only a 5% increase with higher pitch.

I have the ICE 75, Align 500L w/14T, Blue Lipo 30C 3300 6S, 100% TC (governed).

Need a Heli Detective!!

Hey Gang,
A member of my flying club gave me this heli frame. He said it was a Hobby King clone of an Align 500, BUT after looking at ALL the Hobby King 500 series heli frames, this doesn't look like any of them. at best it looks like a combo of some of the GT and CMT, but the skids look nothing like any of the HK 500's and there's a lot that seems "changed". Unless this is an older one?
The main rotor head is almost all plastic, the tail rotor section is all plastic, then main rotor gears are white nylon. The top, sides and bottom of the main frame (as well as the tail boom), are all aluminum as are the tail fins. It's a belt drive tail rotor as opposed to torque tube style. The motor is actually an Align brand. That's all I have. Trying to decide if it's worth building up or not.

I'm new into helis, with experience only in the Blade CX2, Scout and MSR (which is a blast!!). I was hoping to hop up to a Blade 450 3D, although 3D is not my goal. I'm a scale guy who loves to build replicas, and since this 500 "landed in my lap", I'm looking to make either Airwolf or a Hughes 500E. I wanted to do an Apache, but doing the geared 45 degree tail looks like more opportunity for failure.

So, if anyone can help point me in the right direction, or knows what the hell this thing is in my basement shop, I'll send you a Christmas card!!!

Looks liek the guy has replaced all the faulty HK parts with other brands. put some pics up and we might be able to tell you what you have.

Just becasue Blade and other brands put 3D in the title... it doesnt mean you cant fly it normal & in some cases doesnt mean it is 3D capable. The lable 3D is a way to suck newbie to thinking its the "best" heli.

My only thought is your running a lot of weight. I would lower your pinion back down to a 12t. The stock always tries to push the highest gear to push the best numbers. If you over load the motor it will make things way off, it maybe just a mater of over gearing. I have set up many 500's with many different motors. The total stock set up will not like throttle under 80% because of power issues. If your governor is trying to work under 80 that could add to this issue.

Just looked at your set up and I would think your way over geared. Someone using 2600 packs maybe could get away with it.
