Ok, i feel like a newby now but i cant remember, and dont want to have to flip through the 1000+ pages here.

The tight belt in the stock cmt tail....

Is there an easy way to fix it. I thought letting it sit for a year would loosen it up, but it still feels to tight. Do i have to file down the end of the boom, or can i just swap either the belt or the boom to get the right tention???

If I recall the metal tail assembly is what pushes it out more. I think file the boom, but you don't need to do much.

How much is too much? 1mm - 2mm.

How tight should the belt be anyway? The belt on the 600 seems loose compared to the 500.

Do i need to lube the year old belt that has been unused, only assembled and sitting in the corner?

What did you finally kill your other HK500? lol!

I didn't mean you could do it too much. I just meant it shouldn't take but a mm or 2 to give you the slack your looking for. If you only take it down a little you don't have to worry about the tail slipping forward

Vacation sucks when your wife works nights and your kids are in school.

I cut the shaft down about 3-4mm with a miter box and razor saw. The tail block holds the boom very well for me.

I found out what the problem/s were and it survived. Two is always better than one. The 500 size is what i would choose if i could only pick one, so i would not let it die.

file down no more then 2mm off either side of the boom. Any more and you will find that you will not have a snug fit in the tail box.

best to mark 1mm increments on tube and file up to the first line and refit to see belt sension.

Sounds like an ideal vacation to me. More time at the flying field - without having to worry about the kids
