Fly-In - Indoor FunFly in South Eastern Pennsylvania (12-12-2009)

We're pleased to announce that North Penn High School in Lansdale PA, 19446 is hosting another indoor funfly this December 12th 2009. The event will take place in two of the high school’s gyms, with the divider removed between them. It is a large flying space. The ceiling is approximately 30ft high. The gyms share the long edge of the basketball court.

GYM DIMENSIONS (both opened): 175ft Wide x 105ft Deep

LOCATION: 1340 S.Valley Forge Road, Lansdale PA, 19446
Google Map of School
Approximate time/distance from locations:
2.1 miles from the Lansdale exit on the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
45 minutes northwest of Philadelphia
30 minutes south of Quakertown
100 minutes east of Harrisburg

TIME: 9:30am until 4pm (pilot registration starts at 9:30am)
PILOT COST: a $5 cash only donation (offset table rental cost) to the club lets you fly all day
SPECTATOR COST: Free
BRING: AMA highly encouraged
EVENTS: TBA, We're planning on something... not sure what yet.

We have enough flight line for 10-12 active pilots.

ROOM: Approximately 20-30 tables with chairs will be set up in a “U” shape around the flying area. Table availability is first come first serve. Chairs will be provided. Electricity is limited, but there. Bring an extension cord. Onsite charging must be in a firebox or similar.

A frequency board will be provided, but we are not impounding radios. Use of 2.4GHz is highly recommended.

Pilot registration, although not mandatory, is available at our website: http://www.northpennmac.org/funfly.htm
It's just my email address. Send me your name and maybe club affiliation.

FOOD: You can purchase hotdogs, drinks, and similar items at the snack bar (open 10:30am-2pm ish...). The snack bar revenues benefit our Technology Student Association (TSA). Unfortunately, no food or drinks are permitted in the gyms. You have to eat and drink in the lobby area.

VENDORS: Vendors are welcome for the event. Contact voichemg@npenn.org if you're interested. There's no fee!
1. Z's RC, from Warminster PA (Thank you for your support last year too)
2. Hobby Hut, from Audubon PA

Reasons to come to the event:
I received over ten confirmed pilots for the event and it's six weeks away.
We need your support to show the community how awesome this hobby really is.
You'll meet new friends.
Meet the great guys from Z's RC.
You should crash your old equipment before Christmas so Santa can bring you new exciting planes!
Your wife can shop at the Montgomery Mall while you play. It's ten minutes from the school.
Joe Krush will be there with his slow flying planes. If you haven't seen these, they're amazing!
Hobby Hut's heli professionals will answer all your questions

You got it. PVHC is located in Lansdale. It's only a three minute ride from our event.

You're more than welcome to use the time to practice. We'd love to see some F3P! The kids would really enjoy it.

Anyone who still has a few surviving planes from KIEF should come and play with us! I saw that bluecor aircraft carrier at EFEST last year. Maybe it could float it's way down to Lansdale.

Is this the only event of the winter at the site, or will there be several?

Not to get off topic here but if you click on the "Google map of school" to see where the high school is follow (left click and drag) S.Valley Forge Road (rt 363) up to where it meets West Main (rt 63) then make a right and Penn Valley is in the first block on your left between Lansdale Pizza and Lansdale Florists. If you zoom in a few clicks it even is printed out on the aerial map.

Back to the fly-in........

fun-fly advertisement video

Other winter events are possible but not probable. It's really hard to book both gyms. There's the possibility of an 'open gym' set up where we just show up and fly. (no tables, no electricity, etc...)

The plans are to have an early March fun-fly in 2010. I'd like to keep having two a year, as long as we get community support and gym availability.

The kids are really excited about the event! One made an awesome video about it.

Only eight days left!
