The trials & tribulations of a Hamilcar
After my success in using Depron to make new wings for my Wing Dragon I thought I would try something rather bigger.
The Hamilcar was the allies biggest WW2 glider capable of carrying a small tank. The Hamilcar X was powered version with two Bristol Mercury radials to give it a 'fly home empty' capability.
I thought this would make a nice park flyer, simple shape, huge wings and the original only had two bladed props.
68" span, a 2200mAh 3s LiPo, 2x Emax2822 brushless driving 9x4 props and no less than 9 servos (ailerons 2, elevator 2, rudder 1, flaps 4) all for a target weight of 32 ounces.
however the frst flight did not go to plan. CofG too far back, uncontrolled pitching and a rather hard & steep landing.
