Coro works OK

I just finished making a Twins-like plane and Coroplast is an integral part of my design. For most of the plane I used $tree foamboard. The nose is 2mm coro with foam on the outside, the wing wrap is also 2mm coro and I also used it internally for formers/spacers/shelves. There are also a couple of 4mm pieces used in the motor mount. Overall, I think you could probably build this design with 2mm but 4mm would probably be heavy enough that you would need to put on bigger motors and you would have higher wing loading. This is my first foamie (I have built several coro planes) and old habits die hard!

Perfect in that I can get 2 mm here, and the largest is 10mm, with several sizes between, and I reckon that in parts of the twins, it will be helpful with rigidity, especially if I decide to go for the 250% machine, which is sorely tempting, as I could then use it as a glider launch platform for an old Cirrus that I have here and would like to get some airtime on.

Thanks for the feedback

Watch out for what they call diminising returns . As the weight gets higher the bigger motors become anchors dragging it back to Earth. I would think the popular park jet motors 22-12 06 2200Kv would do the job . But they only reccomend 6X4 props.... I don't know, What do you think Bob?

I found the effiecency on these props was pathetic. Put some apc 9 X 3.8'S on it and you will get 30-40% MORE POWER

Poor efficiency props are deffinately a buzz killer :-)

I tend to agree with ALPEA re Diminishing returns with foamys.

Larger sizes tend to negate the whole reason for going foam, except cost.

Size => weight => power => more weight => cost ...

not that larger cant be done it's just going to be a different animal.

4.7# at that size is an accomplishment ! IMHO

Take a look at the Giant Foamys that Otto Diefenbach has been making.
They are all powered by BIG Scorpions and fly gracefully smooth and majestic.
ie YF-22, F15, Pitts, H1 ...

Bob
