Help needed for Reflex XTR

Hey all. I'm new here and I need help for the Reflex XTR simulator. I installed it today on my Vista computer. Everything went well until I tried plugging in the Controller. When the program first started up, it said "No REFLEX-interface could be detected! Please check your hardware installation." Is this a problem with my controller? Or is it just that the program does not work on Vista?

P.S. I am using a controller with a P/S 2 connector which is then connected to a USB connector (No p/s 2 connector for this laptop =/)

I just looked and my Reflex XTR dongle is USB, so I'm not sure what your problem is or why you'd need something different than the dongle provided with the program.

Mine only came with a P/S 2 dongle. I had to buy a converter USB cable to plug in because my laptop is very old and does not have the P/S 2 port. So the program definitely works on Vista?

Did you purchase a retail copy of XTR or is this a copy of the CD which you are hoping to get to work with a 3rd party interface ?

As far as I know, all XTR interfaces are USB - there is no PS/2. They contain the PIC micro that encodes the signals from the transmitter in an encrypted mode that the software detects and understands. Thus if you use any other interface the software recognizes that a non genuine XTR interface is connected and displays the message you got. This is because the hardware protects the application against pirating.

Re-reading you post, do you mean your old laptop doesn't have a USB port and you are using a converter to plug the USB interface into an adapter which connects to the PS/2 port... if so then it's time to upgrade your laptop as I doubt that it would have the power and graphics to run XTR if it is indeed that old. USB ports have been around on laptops for over 10 years now, so for a machine not to have any USB ports it must be a bit of a dinosaur... But then you state your running Vista, and this confuses me, and Vista would need a fairly modern machine to run on, and certainly would struggle on a 10 year old computer that had no USB ports.....

No no. You understood me wrong. My computer has a USB port. It doesn't have a ps2 port. And the controller and the CD I got came with an RC helicopter I bought. The Cable that came with the controller has a PS2 connector so I had to buy a converter to plug it into my computer.

Anyway, I will try to use a Windows XP desktop controller. I wanted to make sure that it wasn't the program itself that wasn't allowing me to use the controller. Thanks for the help though.

Right, the controller you have is not an XTR interface. The controller you have will not work with XTR for the reasons explained. I also doubt that the connector, whilst resembling a PS/2 connector isn't actually meant to connect to a keyboard connector.

Best advice, if you want XTR is to purchase a genuine copy from the classified section of most forums, or via e-bay. Alternatively, purchase a USB interface that emulates a standard windows joystick and try that with FMS, or Clearview.

Hey Guys (Gals?)

I bought my Reflex s/w last year and now just went to download some more aircraft only to find that they no longer support the product . I could not find any trace of the hundreds of model downloads, so I'm stuck with what I have.

They are planning to release a new product in the future.

This is a very nasty thing to do to existing customers. I, for one would never buy another product from them.

I too have a Reflex XTR, bought from a reputable model shop. Ran fine, then upgraded my comp to vista, now Reflex doesn't run. Contacted company and got the rudest reply imaginable! They want nothing to do with customers once they have your money. Avoid!

But if anyone knows how to get this to run on Vista...

Install it on a computer with XP then burn the Reflex folder off on a disc, then put the disc in the Vista computer and drag and drop the folder onto Vista.

Thanks, Charlie06.

I'll see if I can find someone still running XP. If I can't, can anything be done?

Personally I don't know of any other way, that's the way I've been doing it ever sense I started using Vista.

How's that? Are you asking for advice or are you giving advice?

Did you check the SimWerk website, especially the download center? Guess you have version 5.03, anyway they offer a Vista install especially for that.

Just for the record, would be interesting to know whom you asked, what the rude answer was, and what your question actually was.
