The Pubs Dept at AMA is Listening! MA is Going Digital

It seems like this was overlooked.

There was an article in MA by Rob K about MA going digital in 2010. I don't know about you, but I'm looking forward to that. Although I really doubt I will cancel my hard copy of MA, but it will be nice to store them all on my HD for searching later. Web links and email links will be hot in the digital version. That will be cool. You'll be able to email the editor or other authors directly as well as sponsors' websites will be just a click away.

It also states the digital archives on the AMA site will look to be updated. That will also be a great resource as well.

What do you guys think? I think it's a good idea and I'm glad to see how the AMA is really coming into the 21st century under Dave's stewardship.

I have seen the Beta version. Looks good, easy to navigate, just like flipping the pages of the hard copy.

While not a bad idea - I still like the "analog" version. I read paperbacks (not Kindles) and love the feel of paper....

But I get it. I think many mags/newspapers are going this way. Sad in a way....

I prefer sitting down in my easy chair to read, but it will eliminate a lot of magazines that I have to store, so all in all, I'll go for the digital version. RC Report is doing it, and it's working for them.

Yes, both will be available and I'm glad. Right now, I give my old copies away after reading them even though I'd prefer to keep them. Soon, that won't be an issue. I'll have copies of them.

As I understand it, you can select either version. If you want both there may be a small fee. Worth it if you like to read the hard copy but hate to have to store them. You will have the digital version to refer to in the future if needed.

Even if offered both ways, I think eventually, due to the costs, the printed version will go "By the boards"!

I for one, don't want to spend more time on the computer! In my opinion, this will be a sad day!!

Yup I'm not a fan of online publications. They are great for instant satisfaction but leave a lot to be desired. I have a number of 100+ year old books at my house that read just fine and plenty of books in the 70+ range.
I just wonder how many web mags will be availible for reading and how many dead links there will be in 10 years, 20 or 100+ years.
I have several books that are less than 5 years old with internet links to important information left out of the printed version to save space/money. Now probably 1/2 of the links are dead

The electronic versions will be around as long as your storage area is.

Plus, I'm sure the AMA will allow access to those issues from their website if you do lose your hard drive.
