The Hybrid looks interesting. You do have to do some finishing and assembly work but it does not look bad. Judging from a quick glace at some of the threads th planes seem to finsih in the 12 to 14 oz range. That is heavy compred to the typical bagged wing composite competition plane that sells for $350+. these are typically in the 8.5 to 9.5 oz range.

As a first or sport DLG it seems to get good marks but it is not competitive with the composite planes.

Are you looking at this plane for sport or competition flying?

In my opinion the Gambler or DL50 are more competitive than the Art Hobby planes. They are too heavy for DLG and are better slope planes.

Lot's of DLGs to consider

If really good flying and under $ 100 is your goal, then you will need to do a good bit of building. At least from what I've seen. Something like the Gambler AG or the Apogee Sport ( not sure of the price ), and I've heard some good things about the DL 50 as a good starter DLG. You want something pretty light and strong and easy to repair.

Now in the $250+ dollar range with ailerons, and can be competitive, the Predator II Standard model, would be a good choice, I have three. That said I also have several other makes, and they are excellent Too.

Unless you are willing to do most of the building , then you will most likely not get a quality DLG at a bargin price.

The most important advice I can offer, IMO, is that you hook up with other DLG flyers in your area. They are not likely to be next door though. Good DLGs are not all that easy to put together, and the skills from other aircraft building may not be enough.

One of the best ways to start out is to buy someones last season DLG. Not so much for the price, as they often sell for near the price of a new kit, but they will usually come with all the gear "properly" installed" less the receiver. If its a well built DLG, then it's like DLG 101 to use as a reference.

Best of DLG flying to you,

walt

My second DLG was the Art Hobby Hybrid. Aside from the nice components and good fit and finish, it's really too heavy to make a decent DLG. I ended up putting a hook on it and bungee launching.

As Ray mentioned, it makes a better slope plane and his recommendations for a low cost entry level DLG should be considered.
