Hey, looking good.

Don't be tempted to take the mould off the plug untill all parts are done and well cured.

Looking forward to seeing this one progress.

You will probably notice the counter weights on the all-moving tail. I wonder if they'll be necessary on your model. I had to put one on the rudder of my Legionairs, but with cf spars, I had a tendency to dive it vertically from high altitudes.

Jack

Watching this with great interest. Nice work.

Production C-30's had regular fin's and ruddervator's also the forward wing sweep was reduced to half a degree from 1.5degree's. Two C-30 were shipped to the 63' World championship's with very little flight time on them but were competitive. There used to be one in Nevada at one time.

Got my info from Martin Simon's Sailplane's 1945-1965. BTW I just put the info out there. I happen too have a set of plan's for one and they show the FF tail. I also think it's a beautiful design.

Hi all
Just to keep you all up with the progress so far
I'M GOING TO CRY

Just pulled my parting board off the half plug and noticed that the plastasine that was used to fill the gaps sunk
this means that the mould halfs are not good enough! Also when the layup of the polyester resin and glass was done, i had some resin sink down to the untreated part of the plug causing some minor damage (three places).
ALL is not lost though!
I will continue to complete the mould learning all the time and pull a fuz from it, It then, can be reworked to make another mold
I'm V happy with the advice you all have given to date, and shedofdread you were right about the mistakes, but i have learned from them. I might even try epoxy for the moulds next time, but then i will need advice as to what make epoxy to use (uk based)
will post pics tomorrow
Thanks

Iain

That problem could occur no matter what type of resin you use. I try to make my splitter board as close to the plug as possible. Go to search and type in Petrel finally molded. BTW it's not a scale Petrel but a 2m TD ship from S. Africa. I still haven't laid up a part yet but I have a friend bugging me about that.LOL.

Beautiful ship! The C-30 and the Brazilian Urupema are the nicest looking ships from that era, at least in my opinion. There was a C-30 in Fredrick, Md. at MASA in the mid 1960s. It had the V tail and as I recall an unswept leading edge. The owner was going to be the US agent, but that never developed for some reason. I was a lowly lineboy at the time.
