It is the smallest I could find, and leaves absolutely no room in the fuse.
If you want an even smaller/lighter 5s lipo that will fit, you could go with a 1600 mAh or 1800 mAh Neu FAI battery:

Way to go johnnyrocco!

I feel sorry for your camera guy..."this this thing is impossible to see."

Something wrong with the motor? It shut down a few times during your flight.

No, keep the shiny side up!

Good job!

Hey Tim. At 70 degrees here, my motor temp is coming down at 200 degrees F.

So I am easy on the throttle. At this rate I won't be able to fly it this summer. At least not with this setup.

I am trying a mega in my Swist.

I believe we have the exact same setup as each other. I have about 100 1:45 - 1:50 WOT flights on mine - many in the dead of summer here in the Midwest 80F easily (when I usually fly in the morning).

Never measured my motor temps, but I guess I'd have to presume it's the same as yours (though I do have generous cooling holes up front).

My Viper painted by Oversprayer from Florida. He did this at Joe Nall.

Not sure. But it was airbrushed on very light. Flew it and could not tell any difference.

Is 8mm too much spoileron?

I have never had an issue landing until the last few flights. But then again, the wind has been non existent lately which is unheard of around here.

Not only is 8mm suddenly not seeming to be enough to slow it down, but I seem to not have enough aileron. Weird, seeing that I have about 30 flights on my Viper and I have never had an issue til lately.

The last few flights, I have been lucky not to crack something. Ugly landings, snagging wing tips.....

But I have always had a nice steady breeze to fly into on landing.

Any thoughts on what's too much, what works best.......

Thanks

I forget precisely how much spiloeron I have in mine, but I'd guess it's around 5-7mm - not much different than you have.

Sometimes I think we forget just how slow the Viper can glide. I had mine out yesterday for the first time this year and compared to my Rifles (which I had also been flying yesterday), the Viper comes to a stop. So maybe you're not giving enough time circling around to bleed off speed, therefore coming in too fast.

I usually don't dump in all the spoileron until I've got the landing "nailed" and am over the threshold (for fear of getting it too slow).

Those are my thoughts.

Well, here's another - any reason the C.G. may have shifted forward on yours?

I guess I am afraid of stalling. It's happened once before while bleeding off speed.

Yea, that's a scary prospect. Luckily, I've done that only one time on one of my Rifles long ago. That's why I usually don't dump in all the spoilerons on my Viper until I'm on final - I use about half to start with.

I also have about .5mm (or less) of "up" elevator trim mixed to spoilerons - I land all my planes like this with up trim to keep it from nosing down too much as I modulate the elevator stick during final approach and flair.

Rainy day today so thought I would re measure and post my Viper throws and C.G. :

Aileron High: 8mm up, 6mm down
Aileron Low: 6mm up, 3mm down

Elevator High: 2.5mm up, 2mm down
Elevator Low: 1.5mm up, 1mm down

I launch and fly on low rates and switch to high rates after cutting the throttle to begin the landing procedure.

Spoilerons: 6mm up

C.G. 54mm - 55mm back from the wing LE about 1/2" out from both sides of the fuselage.

When landing I usually extend the spoilerons about halfway after the model has coasted for half a circuit or so after cutting the throttle. It usually balloons initially, then settles into a regular glide after it slows more. I make the down wind and cross wind still with half spoilerons and add full spoilerons only if necessary and when on the final up wind after I've gotten close enough to the landing zone. On windy days (much over 8mph - 10mph) I use less spoileron.

Good idea with two spoileron settings. I should try that.

I am presently shopping a 6s battery or "batteries in series" for my Swist
