Aerotow-West

I'll be ordering a Top Model 3.2 meter Pilatus PC6 this week. Time to put Southern Oregon in the aerotowing game!

And don't forget, the Fall aerotow at Visalia is in less than 2 weeks, October 16, 17 and 18.

Dennis,
We will make it down there for sure in 2010! Looks like this coming year will be busy for Matt and I. We will be putting together the Pilatus, a LET DG1000 and probably a Lunak..

Dennis,
I would imagine we(Matt and I)will have the Porter in the test flight phase by the end of December, or the first part of Jan. In your oppinion, is Visalia Better in spring or fall?

Spring is the best, the days are a lot longer in May compared to October.

Hi Randy,
The Pilatus will go together very quickly. Check the landing gear shocks to make sure they are tight. Locktite them, if they unscrew in flight and the spring falls out, you are in for a hassle trying to get a new spring. TRUST ME.
Also. Get some rubber washers for the strut bolts and use them. You dont want a strut coming loose. Its an AWESOME plane. This weekend a pilot from another club who flies all the 3 d large stuff was asked to fly it for me while I flew the glider. He wouldn't give the transmitter back, he loved the way it flies. Slows to a walk for landing and VERY predictable. It wont do anything stupid on you. What are you planning for a motor. I fly with a DA 85, and can pull about 45 no sweat. 50 probably if careful.

Thanks for the tips Len! We will be sure to incorporate them in the build process of our Porter. We are set on installing a twin DA or 3W. BTW with your DA85, how did your model balance out?

A few of us up here in the Seattle area are planning on having a new tug for next season. Can never have enough tugs.

Way to go Guys,
Lets build the Aero-Tow Movement.

The CG was right on, no weight at all. I placed the two flight batteries and the ignition battery on or just forward of the CG and everything is perfect. Another thing I thought about. When you are putting on the Vertical fin, with very little effort, you can make it removable by replacing the 3/8 x2 balsa joiner with ply and running a bolt through it.
just a thought,

len
BTW

I was going to do that too, put a big twin in it , then I just couldn't get myself to destroy the cowl that much.

Thanks for the vert. stab tip! As for the cowl. I'm going to try to order an extra one, just in case we have "hacker's remorse"!
