As for a 4S speed setup, I think Gary at Efflux RC has a 4200kv "hot wind" motor that paired with a bigger ESC would provide more speed.

Hi Diesel,
I saw that you were hoping to use your existing battery.
Before you consider a high (4200kv) powered 4s setup, please note that your gonna need a 4s, 30C (min) 4000 mAh pack. The 3200-3300 mAh Habu pack will not support the amp draw of any brand motor in the 4200-4400kv range.
You will also need a 100A ESC as it's gonna be about 1450W @ 95-100A. The Castle ESCs run comfortably at 100A, as the Burst current is 170A. I hear (but have no experience with) the Hobbywing platinum 100 has a 150A burst rate, so that might be a good choice as well.

Brian is right on with that kv for hot 4s action ( <-- sounds like LiPo po.rn!). The motor that efflux sells is one option, an ARC 28-47-1 with either a WemoMini or a HET 6904 fan is another, and the Hoffman Storm Hot Wind (HW) is another. Pete (hole digger on RCG) was selling them a few months ago for a discounted price, and the 28-47-1's show up from time to time on here. One thing to note, any ~4200kv motor on 4s is going to draw a TON of amps, usually somewhere around 100-125A. Your batteries will need to be up to snuff.
Best of luck,
Josh

EDIT: I see Gary beat me to it!

Thanks for the info fellas. I'm a bigger hobbywing fan than cc fan when it comes to escs. Ill make sure the batteries are up to par even if I need to drop the kv down a Tad on the motor. You guys rock. Hopefully this weekend ill strip the habu and build my eflite hurricane.

Gonna rob the hitec 65mg & 85mg servos and replace with some cheap but trusty TP90MGs on the tail and maybe hxt900s/tp90s on the ailerons and snag a larger hobbywing or plush esc. Going cheap. To much goodies I need and 2 helis I need to fix. Funds are stretched!

Which 4200 KV motor by Gary are you guys referring to?

I know of 1 but there may be others.

As far as I know, his best 4200 KV is MEGA 16/30/1

I was referring to the Velocity 4200. But all the others would be options as well. honestly I'd just e-mail or PM Gary and tell him your budget, speed goal, and cell count and he'll get you a combo. On second thought take that budget and double it.... speed costs at this scale!!

Thanks for the reply Brian.

I believe i should have commented on E option.
Without the E, the above motor will turn bunch more RPM and draw more AMPs.

Since the internal resistance of the Mega is so much lower (better), if people don't want to run at higher power settings etc, they should consider this motor instead of the one I mentioned above:

16/30/1E with about 5% lower KV (due to E rotor $10) should easily run more efficient than other motors mentioned.

This Mega 6 pole and its very low internal resistance will not drop as many RPM under load compared to other motors. Read higher % KV under load.

At same Watts going into motor, it will put out more RPM than other mentioned brands.....more efficient and cooler.

At same RPM out, it will have fewer watts draw from battery than other brands mentioned.....more efficient and cooler.

***When trying to match a Mega to most other motors (power wise), slightly lower KV should be picked.

Just compare resistance numbers.
9 combinations of shaft and bearing options.

We carry 4 motors in the 4200KV range.

These are all "hot" wind motors. Approx 1450-1500 watts ( @95-100A)
on 4s in most 70mm EDFs with a heat sink and throtlle management.
  • ARC 28-48-1 (4250kv...preorder)
  • HET 1W-30 (4400kv) currently on sale.
  • MEGA 16/30/1 (4200kv..Preorder)
  • Velocity RC 2860-4200 (4200kv) in stock
.................................................. ..............

Thanks for the in depth info Gryphon.

Hi buddies. Las saturday my old and trusty Habu 1 have a midair collision against my buddy Bernardo´s Vector.... so I crashed and fuse lost again his long and slick nose..., a hobby King Hd wing camera was onboard and video ....
And here is my question, it is possible to swap all the components of the old Habu to a new Habu 2 bare airframe kit or at least just using all old parts, wing, tail, motor, etc, with just a new Habu 2 fuse....?.
Tx for granted.
Manolo.
Ps. DamonH, my buddy Vector was undamaged on both videos...., the first one the battery were gone and the second the Vector fell in the wheat field with no damage at all...

HABU BAIL OUT... (5 min 19 sec)

Hi Manolo,
You can directly swap all the electronics from the Habu 1 to the Habu 2. Good luck with the new plane, and thanks for sharing the videos.

Tx a lot for the tip Josh, I just ordered this morning the bare airframe no painted kit to Germany. Just let me another question... What is the best Hobby King retract system that can fit in the V2 with less mods and reliable ...
Tx for granted.
Manolo.
