Skymaster F-86 1/6.5 scale set up

I have an SM F-86 inbound and I'm interested in making it fly with an EDF unit. Looking around I see there are a few to choose from but not much info on this application. I have seen Tams TJ100 videos and that set up looks OK but I want to discuss the other fans available and the pros/cons. The TJ set up provides a good base to compare the others to.

The kit arrives next week so I'm looking forward to checking out what would fit in it and then measuring the area of the intake and exhaust.

I'm pretty sure the battery pack will end up at 12S. I'm looking for 5min of good performance and then landing with enough power in reserve. So which fan will be efficient enough for that?

AUW ~ 19-20lbs

Any thoughts about the Schubeler DS-94-DIA HST or the Dyn E Max? What about another EDF?

Well the XPS system is pretty good. I run the EVF5612 and love it. What size is the inlet? And if it comes in at 19 pounds it will fly fine on EDF. 5 mins is very doable.

Working on 120mm fan and ducting for this Sabre. Hope about 3-5 weeks had ready.

Here is my Sabre flying at E-jet.
I power with 10s set up at 3.6kw.
The 120mm fan target to run at 4.5kw to 5kw.

This is going to be a very exciting setup Tam... plus the way you put together the full package ..ducting..fan.. airframes...and soon too come the sound

I think guys will be blown away... by new things to come from Tam Jets
if people think you sitting back sleeping will new things come to the market there dreaming

This whole F-86 project looks like it's going to have to bump my T-45 plans

I didn't feel that way until I flew the Stu Max... now my DS-94 makes me mad
It's a hard mix getting the right performance and sound
but after you fly that quite smooth Stu Max style sound.. you will never go back to the high pitch scream...
Dieing to see what Tam comes up with and fly it

if tam comes out with a new "turbine sounding" 120 fan design, he will do well. i have refrained from the purchase of his tj 100 fan only because it has a high whining pitch that i dont desire in a scale jet...

TJ100 was design to effeceint. At the time I never though about sound. As you can see. Is the only small block fan that able to fly from small 1:12 scale F-16 to big model weight up to 21 lbs on less power than anyone else running in their sport jets.
Now is the sound things everyone care more than effecient.
My challenge to made something that had both.

tam, i undertand your design perimeters on the tj 100. i was in no way critiqing the fan, only the sound. you have certianly proved your design objectives. kudos to you ... i look forward to your new 120 mm fan not only as a spectator but also a customer.

I know what our saying Ron, the mix is what we need to achieve, and i'm with ya in that it progression, and advancement, so it needs to be chased period. also keep in mind when we see if were there or even close, what does Stu's new fan look like? haha Funniest to me is that out of all fans the midi is still the one were all still chasing! Were just all finding the compromises in each fan to get the things we want, without losses getting out of control. But! luckily were now all really talking, and discussing, so thats not a bad start to real advancement in my book!
