Well,

The wind died down to 5 this evening so I took my plastic kit out for the maiden flight. A quick check of the controls and she jumped of the ground and settled into a rock-steady 3 foot hover. Three clicks on the tail and I shot around for a dozen circuits to check out the trim. I will need to tweak the linkages later but it flies wonderfully. Very nice, smooth flyer. Note I never wanted a 3d machine but just something to fly around the backyard and it is clear this will fill the bill nicely. I could not be more pleased.

Setup:
HK250 base plastic kit, all stock
3 HTX900 on cyclic
1 Spektrum programmable 6g digital servo on the tail (in tail mode)
E-Flite 11g gyro
Turnigy 25amp ESC
Turnigy 2623 3000kv motor
Spektrum AR6100E rx
Turnigy 800mah 3 cell batt

Hal, on the GT, what did you do about the main blade grip bearings? Did you do anything with the tail pitch arm? What was wrong with the washout base? Too much play where the pins are?

Has anyone mounted a G401B to the HK250GT yet?
I am asking because I didn't know if it would be to big to fit on the 250GT and I am about ready to purchase one. Thanks all :-)

the 401b is still good to use. it's a bit big, but if it really bothers you, strip it, is the other alternative

The grip ones are 2.5mm inner diameter, 6mm outer diameter, 2.6mm thick.

You'll also want the seesaw bearings as two of them are bushings, 1.5x4x1.2.

I replaced the blade grip bearings with ones from my plastic kit.

tail pitch arm seems fine, the plastic kit's one has a lot less slop so I may swap it out at some point.

the hole in the center of the washout base was too large for the mainshaft, so it wobbled around a bit, and it gave me pitch fluctiations, made circuits really hard.

It was nice to have the plastic kit for spares then...
My washput base is not wobbly at all. I have bearings, blades, and a tail pitch arm on it's way....

So did you fly it with the wrong bearings in the grips? Or did you fix that before the first flight?

I have to think it'll be tough since it has low mass and high stregnth components.

no i fixed that before my first flight as detailed in my build log

and actually this does seem surprisingly tough, i was half expecting everything to be totally bent because of cheap materials
