Thanks, bwoollia. Just in time. I've got a couple "damaged" 401b laying around. One was when I installed it on the 250, its case was actually touching the heli frame, and after a test run the "rev" no longer works (it doesn't reverse direction any more. I was switching servos, some swing in opposite direction). So I filed down frame around that area a little bit and glued in some foam as cushion, and put in a new gyro. When I told a guy in the field he felt strange. He said a gyro doesn't usually get damaged that way. Now I think it must be a wire inside got loose. I will check it out tonight.

Got some more winter flying in - this time it was much milder than the first attempt at winter flying, so I had a bit more success. I think I need to dial my gyro back in, I've tightened everything up so I should probably be able to kick up the gain a click or two, might help to straighten my loops out.

Nearly There

Nearly Done. The ESC i bought is supposed to have a 15 second startup but as it came with no instructions and i cant find any on the internet i wont be able to use that :/

The turnigy 3800kv motor pinions are not the right pitch for the main gear so i am using the one from the kit which is meant for a 2.5mm shaft on the 2.3mm shaft with red loctite. Will have to see how it holds

I would go for something slightly larger than either of those. The Turnigy 2627 series work well, both the 3800kv and the 4200kv versions are suitable - select a pinion for your desired headspeed.

It appears the 4200kv is out of stock but the 3800kv one is in. The pinion that comes with the kit is the wrong size (too large? can't remember) so you'll have to order one. The ones that fit don't have a grub screw, you can secure them with red loctite. Also, the shaft will have to be cut short, it's too long out of the box.

Here's a good pinion that should provide about 4200rpm-ish on 3S with the 3800kv motor:

2.3mm shaft pinion

Anyone know where to get a 2.3mm pinion for the turnigy 3800kv motor apart from hobbyking? . It tried to use the 2.5mm pinion but as it was off centre it just destroyed the main gear and now i cant maiden my heli. Iw really dont want to have to wait for ages to be able to fly it.

Thanks

Brett

I use these

Note this is a 15T. make sure you select the appropriate size for the desired HS.

i also use the green threadlock for these. I haven't had one come off. I've tested it on almost 6K HS.

Is there anywhere to get one apart from hobbyking. Seeing as its Chinese New Year it will probably take 2 weeks to ship

Aside from HC my frequent store would be helidirect.com. I got both the 3800kv and the 4200kv from HC, using 13T and 12T respectively. I am not yet advanced enough of a pilot to tell the differences.

You may also try ebay. It's amazing, some folks from overseas would make a sale for only a few bucks (i.e. free shipping). I got a bunch of esky king main drives for 99 cents apiece (shipped). I have no idea how they make any money out of it.

Okay, last video of me flying over the snow. It's supposed to drop back down to -15 and colder next week again. Stupid prairies.
