Who says you can only have one SD card?

Leave the data for your models on multiple SD cards and when you want to fly one, put in the card that has the data.

well, in my argument I said plenty of models, and I thought 50 was plenty.

but there's nothing saying that it couldn't be 100, or 1,000, or 10,000.

there's a crossover, below which it's cheaper to put the memory into the transmitter than it is to put an SD card reader into the transmitter. I imagine it's probably well over 500 models worth of memory (250megs~)

updating firmware over usb is just as feasible as through a card slot.

I mean, more model memories and firmware upgradeability is fine, and if they achieve it through an SD card, so be it. I just disagree that it's the best way.

I am not sure if I like the sliders on the back. I got so use to them being on the sides on the XP9303

Is the 12X and 10X this way?

I love my JR 9303 but this 11x is UGLY. It reminds me of a future Sci-FI Pontiac grill! Glad to see JR is going to use SD cards, it's about time.

After looking at the prices makes me think this system is set out to compete with the Futaba 12FG at about $900

They already have the 12X competing with the 12FG.

A few points of note:

1. those sliders on the back -- just waiting to be knocked when putting the radio down.

2. why oh why do they still have a plug-in module for the 2.4GHz circuitry? Surely we're getting close to the point where people want/demand dedicated 2.4Ghz radios with no legacy compromises?

3. it looks as if (based on the LCD voltage readout) it still uses a 8-cell NiMH pack. Once again -- why are they "so last century" in their thinking? With a 2.4GHz module this almost certainly means most of the battery power will be wasted as heat. Why not a 2S lithium pack? Oh, that's right, sticking with the old FM legacy (boo!).

4. Styling is "love it or hate it". I'm torn. I do like the much cleaner lines without all the little crevises, nooks and crannies that are just a PITA to clean but it does look like a design that will date *very* quickly. Contemporary today, so "last year" tomorrow.

5. No indication of resolution (or did I miss that). Is it 1024 or 2048?

For the price?

I'll stick with my JR9X/II for now.

At $1500 the 12X is more competition to the 12Z than the 12FG

Maybe in price, but not in programming. The 12Z has the 14MZ programming, I will compare the 12X to the 12FG, even then is a close call.

I own the 12FG and I have setup some airplanes with the 12X.

JMO,
Doug.
