AMA gets some help

Well it seems AMA might have some help promoting the hobby now.

http://www.sportfliers.com/

I know most of you guys promote model aviation passionately and will appreciate the USAMA's effort and will no doubt offer your support. Of course there will likely be a few nasty people that will only have negative things to say but what the hey...let's here it for USAMA for getting into the game and helping AMA get er done.

$20--not bad, the only thing that gets me is the statement
"let us help you help yourself" Famous last words if you ask me.....

However, it does take away from the AMA monopoly.

It will never fly for the very reason that the AMA has a monopoly on about 80-90%
of the best flying sites in the country which means even if you get this new ins
there wont be many places you can use it unless you are an AMA member.

Also I think the 12lb limit wont help them sign up many members either because its
the flyers with the larger planes that really need and want insurance.

The "primary insurance" as opposed to "secondary insurance" is certainly attractive. For those that just wish to cover their liabilities and could care less about competitions and magazines it would be very attractive I would think.

Sure AMA carries the load and virtually monopolizes the flying sites now but with some support, US AMA might be some real help promoting our great hobby especially for those that fly by themselves or in small groups.

the funny thing is the coverage on the new group is "pending" as are the "bylaws"

although i am not the biggest fan of the AMA and will never join, they do have a good background and years of "success and the schlorship oppurtunities are excellent

This does nothing to promote the hobby except try to make a buck for the founders.

I'll stay with the AMA. At least I know they are trying to promote the hobby and do represent us with the government. I see nothing about that with this "new insurance company".

Even though I think the AMA has room to improve, it has many years, and many flying sites that are established. The 12 pound rule to me is way to limiting. This is not competition as it is not offering the same options. It is funny that the name is the same name I joked about a year back here on RCG that I would name a new organization if I hit the lottery (which I did not ).

Makes no sense to start something that has no fields, has no real plan, and has no benefit above the AMA. Unless you call the 20 bucks a benefit, and today I think we all know you get what you pay for.

Cheers, DAG

Ok Littlecrankshaft now for the part of this USAMA that id be interested in . While I realize that you are putting this out there as an alternative to the AMA {which will NEVER fly with most AMA members, myself included} What about the idea that an AMA member might join USAMA also ? I freely admit I know nothing about insurance and so I ask : could this be protection ALONG WITH insurance from the AMA ? I ask this because as we all know ALL insurance has limits and if I ever hit someone with my plane I would want as much coverage as possible to deal with the claim . $20 a year for some extra coverage sounds ok to me as long as it wouldnt cause problems with already existing insurance we have {homeowners , AMA} . If they dont try to replace the AMA but serve as extra coverage in concert with the AMA maybe ? What are your Ideas / Info about this ?

So the result would be $1.5 million for PPP + USMA or $3.5 million for AMA + USMA.

If USAMA turns out to be a pure insurance plan... it may not be a bad idea.
Thank you for helping me frame my question Fred , I wasnt sure about the Dollar numbers but Im glad you knew what i meant about not wanting to replace the AMA but to supplement it

I can't see how this is promoting the hobby. The only thing I see if someone promoting themselves to a better lifestyle with our money.

New scam websites are born everyday wanting to rob people of their money. I'll reserve the right not to send any of my hard earned money to some PO Box for something I do not know if it is even a legit company or not. I want more facts first.

What does the OP know about this company? Does RCU have a stake in this as well? Let's hear more about it and then I'll decide.

I would suspect everyone else would want to do the same.
