Since this seems to have become the defacto thread for our new Kinkade birds, here are a couple of pics of the new Shrike I just received from Nathan. There won't be any trouble spotting this color scheme in the sky It doesn't have gear installed yet (just arrived today). I also included a size comparison of it inbetween my SH2 and YH.

[quote=Tres Wright]You are correct Rick I got my SH from Nathan today and it is indeed an SH2 just like my old one. My new Shrike has the "new" gear design as does the new Glide Hawk (I don't have a GH, but per the pics posted it's the new gear design too), so I assumed the gears had been changed on all of them but apparently not.

What will you be using for batteries on the new SH2? I question how long this motor will last on 3 cells. Rick

Tres your birds looks.....may i have one..!!?..I have a shrike too, but ti came from france. It cost $483.00.and on my 5th flght on a really windy day, i fractured the body right at the main gear socket! Daddblastit!! My brother bought it for me as a gift. I have always wanted a shrike xl or shrike more than any kit Sean sold!..I have always thought the wings looked so different than the others. Man your bird are very beautifully different kidda in their own way. I wonder who got the lime green one!? I have to say again, Sean & his Wife did a job on those bird! Tres, i knew only one person to do a review on the shrike a few years ago. I was wondering...sence you just completed your collection, sir will it be too much to do an "up-to-date review on that amazing shrike you have in the picture..?.when you have time..oh, and a video?? G-LO PS: can yall take some pictures of the gears on the shrike? I want to see how alike it is to the GH. THANKS

Thank you sir! That's not all of them... there's another SH2 (for my son), a PH2 and a Pterodactyl that aren't pictured. Yeah I know, it's a sickness

I'm going to test it on 2 cells first. It's definitely a cheap-looking motor, I agree that outwardly it doesn't look like it would take kindly to 3 cell voltage. My brushed Yard Hawk has many flights on 3 cells, but it's a more robust motor.

I did, that's it in the pics! Nathan clarified by email before I bought it that it was actually the fluorescent green color from the chart he posted a link to.

I plan on setting up the Shrike as soon as I can finish this darned kitchen remodel that's been eating all my time lately! I'll definitely let ya'll know my impressions once I get it going. I don't have a digital camcorder, it's on my wish list. So no video unfortunately. Some day! I'll post pics of the gears soon.

You bet, I'm at work now but I'll check as soon as I get home this evening and let you know.

I'm glad you posted that pic of the motor, I had not noticed the markings on my motor. Based on your pic these brushed motors on the newer birds are GWS EPS 350's. That settles the 2s versus 3s question, these motors can definitely not handle 3s voltage (see this thread for example). No biggie, I'm sure the gearing is set up for 2 cell usage I still plan on running it up on the Whattmeter to see what it's pulling though. Will post the results here afterwards.

There's a small screw that runs through the G10 into the gear in the second picture, but in the 3rd picture there is just a hole in that same spot. I think that's the one he's talking about.

Tres, you certaihly are right about the motor in the new birds. It is the same in my Slow Hawk 2. From my experience with park flyers you could run 3 cells but that would last about 2 flights at best.

I've been there with planes on GWS motors and 3 cells, one or two glorious flights and then the magic smoke comes out

I was just looking over the DEAF fly-in photos and one of the guys posted a pic of my SH2 flying high, neat photo!

Hey guys thanks for the fus pics. I didnt know that Sean put the double gear on the shrike. I thought he was going to put it on the parkhawk next.?..I gess i thought wong..! I suppose Now you can cautiously put a right size brushless system on it,being that there are 2 gears instead of 1 bearing the load ...perhaps...

Got mine to fly!!! I had talked to Sean about going to a 3 cell battery. I really thought I needed more power but he asked me to check the set screw in the middle gear 1st…..It was missing! After putting one in and doing some trimming/flight tests I am happy to report that my Hawk is flying! I did break another spar rod (Previous to these latest flights) now I am using one solid spar and one rod in rod spar so there is a little trimming needed for now but Sean is sending me new spar rods. I should be back in business without the paper clip soon.
