Yes, looks good Kris. Thanks for posting the photos.

Snrek's bird has a new horizontal battery tray. I can make the kits either way. Not sure which is really "best". You have more velcro surface area on the vertical mount to shift things around but the horizontal mount looks cool to me. Once it's up in the air there is probably little difference. I hope you both like your Glide Hawks regardless.

Attached are some pics of Snrek's fuselage. Oh, and Kris....notice I simplified the microswitch push rod from G-10 to a piece of z-bend .031" music wire.
You could do the same to yours if you want.

I actually like the look of the g-10 i do however like the position of the servo alot better but it works just the same either way. Not sure which mounting system i like better but like you said once its in the air you cant tell the difference.

When structure is not made clear, it is not possible for a discussion.
I think that Rachet of the right side is the same as past structure of SlowHawk.
Rachet of the left side holds an original turn of Gear ?
Please teach the form of Rachet.

While I have not received mine yet I do think both mounting systems are comparable. My main goal is to have a nice flying ornithopter that blows everyone away! I have several planes that I fly regularly with great results but this whole flapping thing is where it’s at! In my area we have a number of big birds’ (real ones) cruising around at any time. I want to give them something to check out….perk their interest….Maybe have them take a stab or two at it! So much fun, so little time!

Kazu,

The Sure-Glide system is explained on my website under "What's New".

www.flappingflight.com

But yes, the one gear has the ratchet pawl. It is not just like previous models but serves the same purpose. The other gear has a trip lever that toggles with each gear cycle and clicks the microswitch when the microswitch is moved in range of it.

I owe several people Pterodactyls from '06. And once a get a set of feet and a Ptero head on Glide Hawk mechanics you guys will get a better Pretodactyl than you bargained for....with a brushless motor, and a speed control, and a Sure Glide device. I'm working on it.

Hey Kris'& Snrek did yall have time to fly your hawks? How did it go? And what are its characteristics? And most importantly(me that is) how was the glide and its glide system? On Sean youtube, his 1st glide from the altitude he stared from lasted about 20 seconds. The 2nd about 22 or 23 it seems ,before the footage ended. I asked Sean about the size battery he used on his Glidehawk and he said he was using a 1000mah 2 cell. On his lazyhawk he used a 900mah cell for that 2min glide.
Hopefully i can take mine up (oh!when i get mine) to nearly a speck and just glide as long or longer than Sean's. .....BUT..we will see.

G-LO, I have not finished putting mine together, I am waiting for the servos. My Hitec HS-65 servos should be here Monday. I got my Glide Hawk last Thursday, I went with a blue wing with black trim and a yellow tail. I decided that a different colored tail would give it some definition and I like the look. I did solder on a battery connection and I have bench tested the sure lock system several times. It stops just past the glide position in the stroke every time. I assume that the pressure on the wings (during flight) brings the wings back up and into the locked position. Seems effective and simple enough that even I should get good results!

G-LO......I think the color you picked is going to look really cool. I don't know if the material can be painted but if it could and you did some (Very light) air brushing with a gray or black color so it looked like feathers you could really give the local birds something to think about!

You know I was thinking the same thing. That is when i really use to it in all, and when the flapping white starts to look like a T-shirt in the wind. Most definitely. But from a professional and knowing the properties the paint/ink has.
