With 1500-2500 packs, one ESC suddenly dropping power happened to a few of us, occasionally (but destructively!).
I did some soak (=long) tests with a 4000 pack, 1045 blades, AUW 910g, just to stress things, and repeatedly got a dropout (on whatever side the CofG was towards) at 7-8 minutes in. The side (motor & ESC) it dipped to was noticeably hotter than the others. From this I deduced that the problem wasn't glitching or controller firmware, but ESC overheating. I put little heatsinks on each ESC's output transistors both sides, outside the heatshrink 'cos I am superstitious , and then found I could empty a 4000 pack in a single 20 minute+ flight, at this 'over max spec' weight, without dropouts.(This isn't the same as saying you won't get dropouts with heatsinks - just that it worked for me). Others have also re-mounted the ESCs on the arms so they catch some of the downwash. I am awaiting delivery of some 8045s (lost the original tri-blades in a dipping incident) to see if they are more efficient (= less likely to cause overheating) than the 1045s. (In correspondance, Xaircraft agree that, over-weight, the ESCs might overheat, but so far they won't acknowledge that this happens occasionally (and destructively!) with normal packs and normal flying. Which tells me something important about their attitude to their customers.) |

I'm wondering how you mounted the lipo and rx in the RCD frame. Ive got them together in the middle but the side with the RX closest to it is heavier on that side. Is it negligible to have that little imbalance or should I possibly suspend it underneath in the middle? |

That would be sweet!
Will there be enough room to still put on the camera mount?

well i will admit i like the x500 as well for couple reasons, but think about what kind of addons you can get with any other custom quad, the QP has huge support and addon support as do other like TT and MK. that should help your deicsion. even though the x500 may be fun to fly. think outside the box :P
btw they may not be children but certainly his babies :P |

He caught some heat last time he picked one....
![]() Update: Well tried to mount all of my camera (FPV) gear tonight and had a set back. Well with all the extra cabling and crap added to the frame it wouldn't start. I'd get the beeps and everything was fine according to the board but it just wouldn't arm the motors. I'm thinking the blame lies on the OLD ass Futaba T8U that I'm using that I had to borrow. It seemed to reset itself and i spent all night trying to reprogram it with no luck getting it to start. The only way I could get it to start was wiggle a few wires one time and the motors started up under a failsafe mode or something, it was wierd. I couldn't get them to start by the radio but if I fiddled with a few wires, the motors would start up and run at a low idle but the TX still had no control over throttle??? I'm going to remove all the FPV stuff and check all my wires again. |
