Question
How much have YOU $pent on FPV?

I have just notched up 2 years messing with FPV.
I did a little adding up of how much I had spent, as I have put together, crashed, retired or lost 5 planes in this time. I still have 2 fully functional platforms.
I stopped counting when I reached $6000.00!!!
If I guesstimate the cost per hour of flight time Im probably looking at about $200/ hour.
So how much have you $pent so far?

You do realize if our wives/girlfriends were to catch wind of this thread it could be the end of fpv as we know it.

I'll take a cue from the "Icarus" thread and say $399.

Goggles-$150
tx/tx- $60
camera-$30
2 x models $150 (crashed one, one still working)
JXD 318 recorder-$65
GP patch-$5
OSD-$60
video splitter-$10
Accessories-$150

Total ~$600

First immersive flight- Priceless

Some things in life money can't buy, for everything else there's slaving 60 hours a week just to make ends meet and get shafted by the taxman.

I sold my Trex500 helicopter, and told my wife the AU$900 I got would cover it. Well, that ended up being a lie! I'm on around 1100 - but I think that's me setup, and ready to go. I foresee, at the moment, another $200-$300 to get the EagleEye stuff...

So yeah, around 1350 I'd say...

If you spend more than $750 / year on FPV gear you're doing something wrong It takes $500 to get you started and I keep $750 on the side each year to improve and extend my setup (new TX's, better cabling, diversity, etc). Since this is now my first 12 months in FPV I'm out almost exactly $1250. The FPV gear is not the expensive part ... I paid around $3000 for the FPV planes in the meantime

You should fly more often because at that rate flying real planes would be cheaper! http://www.lafayetteaviation.com/Gen...entalFrame.htm for $200/h you can sit in the left seat of the Piper Seneca. I'm currently dishing out $80/h on Piper Warrior.

I personally spent $600 on my last plane, moved and now am looking to spend $1000 on my next fpv plane. However I flew my last plane every day for an hour during lunch breaks so it would come out to less than $6/h

Well, I had about $350 worth of repairs (1 new camera, 2 new TXs, 1 new antenna) and the rest I spent on improvements (oracle diversity, 1.3ghz tx, etc).

In my calculations I only include FPV gear, not servos or other R/C stuff (as mentioned before). I spent about $4000 on R/C stuff (planes, engines, batteries) but only $1250 on FPV stuff.

All in all if I look at my flight log on my tx I've had 120 hours on my glider and around 75 hours on my swift. So each hour in FPV cost me around $26 so far ... If you take the stuff that I haven't flown yet out of the equation it would be around $15 / hour. But for the most part I'm not flying cheap fomies like the most of you ... my current glider is $1500 just R/C gear ... and the one I'm building right now is $1500 empty.

To be honest, Tarro, I'm surprised you're calling my calculations BS ... since it's more likely your spending that is BS considering how much flying you're doing compared to me
