Here's a post of a short flight I had this afternoon.

I killed the launch preset too soon so it was pretty horizontal but you get the idea.

Now if we can only keep the plane in the viewfinder. In all fairness, the light was getting pretty low.

Good flying weather, but then again, for us addicts, it's almost always 'good flying weather'! Am I right, or am I right!?!!

Thanky. CT is Connecticut, in 'The States'. I need to remember that this is a global forum, eh?

Well, when it comes to glider stuff, the to-do list has a tendency to have glider work at the top. Been working on Icarus Plans, have a drawing in the can. Just need to do a plot and make sure the content is there.

When I do post it, I'll be looking for feedback. Short of a build log, it's difficult to cover all the bases.

Icarus Plans

Se here we go. Plans of the Icarus DLG are attached. This is a quick build balsa dlg 48" wingspan.

The only carbon I have in this plane is in the boom. Some strong throwers might like to add carbon on the throwing side but I haven't been able to break this plane with the solid balsa leading and trailing edges. If you have light balsa, you might do it all solid.

AUW is 7.0 oz as shown.

PM sent, let me know if it doesn't arrive, it doesn't seem to register in my messages list.
Cheers

Well, getting a bit of interest in the plans especially Down Under! Must be something about the balsa down there! Addles the mind!

Went out again with my wife to do some flying. Since she is in training, I let her do about 80% of the stick time while I launch. It was mostly cloudy but the sun was evident thru the moderate breaks and there was a SW breeze with big shifts as the thermals moved across and the temps rose.

Plenty of rising stuff to play with. Even with her turns still in development she was picking up some lift. Eventually she'll be better at reading the air but there were a few flights over a minute.

I had maybe ten launches that I flew. As I ranged out upwind I had some nice bumps and hooked a good one for 3 minutes worth and maybe 300' of height, coming back to finish with a hand catch. Still learning how to make those turns smooth and small enough to stay in business!

Flight Report

Did some more flying this evening out at the schoolyard as the sun went down. This is a nice flying area on weekends when there is no activity on the baseball field, and I am free to range out over the high school, football fields and parking lots adjacent. The baseball outfield is plenty big enough to assure a smooth landing area.

For the most part I launched while son Derek flew. He does such a nice job on the sticks! (Had the semi-solid winged Mimi with us too, spent some air time with that one as well). Didn't do any timing but launches were pushing 100' in general, some higher when I got my act together. There was a smidgeon of breeze and small pockets of lift, but nothing sustained as the sun was nearly down. Nice flying but I am coming to like the breezer air.

So far, plans are off to various locations in the US, as well as Finland, New Zealand and Australia. Looking forward to some feedback from these folks as the builds come to fruition!

You bet, wing sections built, one half joined, tail feathers (contest 'C' grain balsa) cut waiting for shaping. Servos arrived today, they are red so should go faster !

I'll get some pics done as I go, but really busy with squash tournament this week every night.
