Nice vid... but no need to post in two threads... (i.e. no need to post this video in the photos thread)... just clutters things up...

Here's a video of the EasyTiger Bearcat. I think that it was the biggest model there. Pretty impressive.

Awesome awesome job on those videos tailgunner. What camera, what resolution was that, what software did you use. I didn't realize how much action there was during the easystar combat, looked like fun, you caught a lot of the action.

Thanks Antslake,
I retired my Canon SR10 last year and jumped into High Def with a Sony HDR-SR11 (60 gig hard drive model). Selling points for me were the hard to find eyepiece (essential for taping fast moving objects) and manual focus. It's been a winner so far. I tried to shoot at full HD of 1920x1080 but quickly learned that my editing PC couldn't deal with it. The PC is a middle of the road machine now with a dual AMD 3400, 3 gigs ram, 1 TB of drive space. With it choking on the HD stream I had to back off to 1440x1080 for now, and I find it's plenty of resolution for what I'm doing. I used to use Adobe Premiere 1.5 for editing, but that software wasn't capable of editing the newer ACD format(I think) directly from the Sony HD camera so I switched to Adobe Premier Elements 7. That's worked out OK so far, but I've had to learn a new editor and it's got a few bugs, nothing major. I've been playing around with compression and so far the best that's worked for me is using the wmv codec, sizing to 640x480, keeping the same bit-rate, and use a 2 pass method. I've tried Divx before with good results but it's sucking really bad from the PrE7 software. I good compression level to me is when you can magnify to 200% and still have a decent video to watch. I'm almost ready to upload the night flying. Should have you in there somewhere. OK, I think I'm officially a NEAT freak now :-) Al |

Tailgunner, what do you mean "bu the 2 pass method?"
I know what you mean by the slow computer. Mine is 7 years old, and editing just 720p is time consuming. I am using pinnacle studio10. The video you did is very clear for 640x480. I try to upload to youtube as HD but youtube's HD mode doesn't play well on my computer, hopefully others can see it ok. Good job on the balloon contest. I think you can see me pop the first balloon, which was like all the way down in the park flyer area, and over by the pond. I was just flying towards it, and I was thinking to myself, hey, I might be close to the woods by now, so I'm gonna come back. Then all of a sudden POP! I was like Holy *@#$! me and my son were high fiving. I posted in the other thread that SKS filmed the night fly for the first time, since there was no indoor, and I wrote to them, they said they are going to include the night fly in the next video, and the awards presentation afterward. First time in 10 years I guess. Can't wait to see how that professional camera captured it. It's so hard to capture. Crash, I don't know why you are 6000 miles from me, it says you are 10533km from me. I guess the location feature has some bugs in it. I don't know Willie. If he lives in Tuxedo, he is 10 miles from me. "Over the mountain". |

Hey Antslake,
2 pass is an option on some compression codec's. It parses the video on the first pass and stores info about the video on where to use higher or lower bit rates to keep the quality higher with the lowest size when it writes the 2nd pass. The night video was my first. It came out better than I had hoped. In the first 2 scenes I used the "night-shot" mode and then just normal mode. The darkness does induce a lot of noise in the video, it'll be interesting to see how the SKS video looks with the pro cameras. Hitting those balloons was hard enough, let alone one that was what 500-600 feet away? Nice flying! Al Last edited by tailgunner; Sep 29, 2009 at 04:59 PM. |

Yea, I read that using night shot is a waste. Night shot only picks up infrared, which is useful if you have the infrared light on. Using nightshot, you also lose the color. BTW, I have a Sony digital 8 with nightshot, and super night shot, and filming the night fly was always a challenge.
I guess I had my lat/long wrong in my profile. How was I to know, I am always 0km from myself, so I thought I was ok, LOL. |

The link will take you to a blank page, but your windows media player should start automatically also. Give it some time to buffer and start. If not, you can right click and save link as, then you will d/l the movie to your computer.
Crash, I grew up in Bayside Queens, and worked on LI, very familiar with it, lived there 29 years. Have a lot of relatives still live there. |
