Not really a firmware issue, but it could be
I have 2 of these, ones an 8gb built in and the other has no memory bbut Ihave an 512mb micro sd card in it They both look the same nad have the same controls the 512mb one has 3 leds blue, red & yellow (L to R), when charging red comes on, then yellow and then blue flashes switch on, press the big button (long press) and red led, yellow led flash then goes out and blue comes on press the big button blue led flashed and its taking video, press button again blue led stops press big button (long press) yellow led comes on let go big button and unit switches off turn switch off connect to pc and there are videos NO PROBLEM 8gb one also has 3 leds yellow, green and blue (L to R), when charging yellow and blue comes on, yellow goes out then blue goes out, yellow comes on again, then green flashes switch on, press the big button (long press) and yellow and blue come on, yellow goes out, blue goes out, let go of big button and yellow come on then blue at this point it is taking video press the big button, blue goes out, green comes on, press it again and green goes out and blue comes on again press the big button (long press) and the blue goes out and after a short while the yellow goes out turn switch off connect to pc and open folder video directory, then record directory with any luck there are lots of video files, the last one is always 0 bytes (which is the one I probably want if Ive been flying) otherwise you cant even get to the record directory Ive set up the time Is there any way to reset this thing or has someone any better instructions as the ones that came with it dont even make sense Ronnie btw I did some combination and I got ANYKA USB WEBCAM come up one time in windows, very strange |

what I also should have said was that sometimes after recording for a long time, pressing the big button either short or long does nothing and th only thing you can do is just switch it off, this makes it so you cannot read the directory

Hello, Ive just had a play at work, I put the camera on my desk set it going and came back later
It was switched off so I assume the batteries had died It connected to the PC with no problems and I found 3 files which all played 44min 56 secs 50mins 1 sec 50mins 1 sec total 144mins 58 secs Now I'm totally confused Ronnie BTW unless you want to store the videos on the stick a 2gb is all you require (3 files 644mb, 613mb, 635mb at 25fps but slightly different bit rates) |

Here is the manual for this camera is a little easier to read form. I got that from the eBay seller as a Word document and converted it to a *.pdf file with OpenOffice Writer.
I noticed Windows Media Player will not play the videos, nor will WinAmp. But if I use the more generic freeware VLC Media Player it plays them fine. Has anyone else noticed anything like that? Jack |

Thanks for the manual but it is not the one for mine, mine auto starts video recording. It is a useful manual nonetheless
Thanks Ronnie |

If any of you are having trouble making your own text file to fix the time, I came across another method. Member ajbaker has a fix here and I used his windows intructions here. Worked good for updating the time on my gumcam. |

"..mine auto starts video recording..." Does yours look like the one in the image in the manual? I'm sort of wondering if these guys over in China are not generating a new and/or different firmware every other day or so. Maybe they think we'll keeping buying new ones until we get it all working? Ive used several programs to play but finalised on this one
http://mpc-hc.sourceforge.net/ or a portable version here http://www.winpenpack.com/main/download.php?view.1228 Regarding the different versions off the dv camera, I put a 4gb card in the one without memory today and emptied the battery, the file sizes were bigger and it recorded at 29fps I still think it will be ok for what I want and will post a picture of my setup when I get the chance Ronnie |

Ive just discovered something while having both cams connected to the laptop, the built in 8gb one is Fat32 whilst the one with no built in memory but a 4gb micro SD card is Fat. I know it shouldn't make a difference for recording so I assume that the differences in operation are due to different firmware
(is there a way of finding out firmware versions??) Also the 8gb one seems more tolerent of mains chargers, it will work on any but the other one only works with certain ones |

Actually the FAT and FAT32 thing is how the microSD card is formatted. You can change that by re-formatting the card from the properties menu in Windows Explorer.
It used to be, back in like the old when CF cards were new days, that the cards came formatted FAT (also called FAT16). And would not work on some cameras and other devices if they were re-formatted to FAT32. People would reformat those cards under flavors of Windows (XP for example) that had moved on to using FAT32 as the default and think they were broken or had been ruined somehow. With all the different devices, flavors of Windows, etc., etc. it got a little frustrating at times. But you can still format and reformat to your heart's content to the see if one works better or changes anything. Jack |

I got 2 mini DV-cameras today. Added my own 2G microSD cards.
It was advertised at 30FPS but I don't know how to measure that for sure. The instructions said use userconfig.txt for the time but that didn't work at all. The time.txt does work for me (THANKS cat 007) but I cannot turn the time off. The directory dates are 1/22/2007 9:49PM (that's about where the time was too before setting it). My directory labels are DCIM and subdir 100DSCIM the pictures show up in the 100DSCIM directory name seq is PICT0001.AVI for movies, PICT0002.JPG for photos and PICT0004.WAV for audio files. My device driver, under disk drives, calls it a Syntek USB MSDC USB Device Both cameras seem to work fine. They use about 38meg/min. video Noting that I don't have a _REC directory these are somewhat different. |
