Man that is going to be one mean looking bird. I think he has played with the fan a little but is working on getting everything setup so it will be ready for a test fly. I like the large planes but they take up a lot of space, and I find the instructions a little on the lacking side. At least for the one I have here. There is no doubt that these are the king of the group and the en vie of all.

Testpilot,

Get on that bad boy! It looks like you could have it flying next weekend

Scott:
I find the instructions a little on the lacking side.

A good number of the "build instructions" early on were vague or non-existence and I think the reason was builder experience. The manufactures figured if you were going to fly one of these (at the time)advanced planes you would already have the knowledge to build them. The F-8 I am building is a great plane but if I didn’t have the experience in building then I would not want to depend on the instruction manual which is included in the kit.

Scott,
Guess you cant see all the tape that is holding it together for display

Nothing is ever done to this kit i got, so there's alot of work to do.
I have a F9 Panther i need to finish first, then it's time to start.

/Brian

Do you know where you are going to mount the fan? Above the retracts or further back in the tail? I'm looking at a similar project and am a little nervous of putting the fragile, expensive fan above the retracts.

The fan assembly is not carbon, so it is not fragile by any means. These had glow engines originally, which beat the snot out of everything.

That was a riot Billy! what a power pack. You wont need intake ducting with that. If you dont mind some advice, I would say put a proper bellmouth on the shroud and close up the cheater hole and that bird will be a rocket. I'll be following along for sure.

good luck
Dean

Man! Now that is blowing. Maybe I need not worry about ducting on my F-8 Crusader...just install my Hurricane fan and Byron shroud and go fly. I might just do that as I don't like building intake tubes anyway.
All I would need is the motor mount for the XPS motor to the Byron shroud. I believe someone said EJF has the motor mount for the Byron/XPS conversion. I have the up dated Hurricane fan which replaced the Byron fan and have flown it in a Byron F-86 using the Hacker Turbo motor. This XPS motor puts the Hacker to shame.
