Great job Bart !! and you're learning ? wow !! Can't imagine what you can do when you're good at Rhino ! ;-)

You can try RhinoNest to place the wing ribs so you will use less wood (reducing costs).

That is one of the coolest things I've ever seen done in Rhino. Thanks for sharing.

Konstantin,

Please post the video to the CAD Showcase thread, above. It is a masterwork. Congratulations on it.

So I got an email to upgrade to Rhino 5 with special pricing. Anyone here plan to do it? Do you think it's worth it? I'm still a student so I can get the upgrade for $95.

I ran the early beta for Rhino 5 and liked it a lot. I went back to 4 after some small issues but would go back in a heartbeat.

I tried it too and liked it...

It's probably a good idea for me to get the student pricing now, because by the time Rhino 6 comes out I definitely won't still be able to.

Rhino 5 upgrade

Yesterday I ordered the upgrade to 5.0. I have been using 5.0 beta for months on a 64-bit machine and it is much faster than my 4.0, which ran in the 32-bit mode. You notice the 64-bit speed advantage right away if you rotate a big, highly detail object in 3-space.

One drawback is that my favorite 4.0 plug-in, Auxpecker, will not run in 5.0. This means that in order to quickly render a project using Auxpecker, I save the 5.0 file in a 4.0 format -- then open it in 4.0 and proceed with the rendering. Usually this is a last step.

Glad 5.0 will finally see daylight.

Michael

I'm not sure what if any software is capable of importing .mdl files. Mostly these are used in gaming. Maybe somewhere there's a converter, but a quick search showed little to me.
