My probation officer saiz I can't comment on an on-going investigation ... so, is anyone flying at the dirt field tomorrow morning? Vu, could you bring a copy of that form? Lee and Norm, bring your bowling balls.

DLG rx question

Not sure where to post this but I know Chandler has some of the best and friendliest DLG pilots in the world - so here goes. I've never flown DLG (getting more and more curious though) but I get the impression that many people favor the Futaba 8FGA for DLG and many favor the Spektrum AR6255 rx because of the end pins. It IS correct that the Futaba radio is not compatible wth the AR6255 - right? Then what is the "tx /rx system of choice" for most DLG'rs? If there is a better place to post this question please send me there - thanks!

dlg td contest toys for tots chandler field

On December 17, 2011 Central Arizona Soaring League will be having a contest to benefit children in need of gifts at Christmas. This is something we do every year but this year we have added a twist, in the past it’s been Thermal duration. For 2011 the contest will combine F3K with TD in teams of two pilots. Here are the idea teams of two pilots “Random” one flying F3K and the other TD. Total flight time for each round will be 15 minutes, F3K will have the first 8 minutes, launch as many times as you needed but longest fight counts. We will have a launch and land buzzer. Then TD is up to finish the round, one launch per pilot seven-minute window, which will include landing points. At the end of each round will add both pilots times together including landing points. For each second of flight time the team will be awarded one point, including landing points “standard CASL landing tapes. We wanted to keep it simple and fun, remember this is a benefit “Toys For Tots”. Please come out and join us it should be great fun and help children in need.

Entry fee: provide a toy for a boy or girl unwrapped $10.00 minimum

Location: “Water Tank” Chandler Arizona

Date: December 17, 2011

Time: pilots meeting 8:45 am / first flight 9:00 am

Two winches will be provided for TD

Contact: Donnie Langdon 602-326-3624

CASL will also be having its monthly meeting at the field starting at
8:00 am, any person flying in the contest is welcome to join.

Thank you,
Donnie Langdon
CASL President

I'm not certain about radio choices, as Charlie and George have a lot of us hooked on the Multiplex EVO. The great thing about them is that most major brands of 2.4 have been adapted to work with them. The bad thing is that they're no longer sold here, as I think Hitec considered it competition for it's own new(er) radio, the Aurora9.

I do know that there's not a lot of Spektrum love around here. After seeing a few thousand dollars worth of damage, most of us went away from Spektrum. However, since the release of the 6255, others have reported good luck with that equipment.

In AZ, there seems to be about an equal amount of people flying FASST and Hitec 2.4 systems, and both have proven to be fairly reliable. Additionally, there are some Airtronics pilots that love their equipment. You are correct that, in general, different brands of 2.4g systems are not compatible.

For radios, find one that feels good to you, has the necessary mixing capabilities, and hopefully isn't too heavy, and preferably, not ridiculously expensive. We spin around with these things in our hand, and there is a possibility that it could go flying.

I think that if you find a radio that you're comfortable with that runs FASST, Hitec, or ATX 2.4, you'll be alright.

What Tim said - and when using Futaba (FASST) system most of us use:

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXXNA3&P=7
(6-channel end-pin)

or

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXTHL6&P=7
(7-channel top-pin with two whiskers)

Either will work in a DLG installation as long as the whiskers are routed outside the fuse.

Here's a good option if you want to join the HiTec camp:

http://hobbyhorse.com/hitec_aurora.shtml

The package includes 7-CH receivers, which are marginally heavier than 6-CH.

Also, there ARE smaller "DLG-sized" RX's available for the Hitec system. The Minima 6E will be my go-to RX, once I get a programmer to update my firmware, and do some testing on the RX.

Tim I have a programmer you can use if you want.

I'm going to be ordering the minima 6e for my next dlg. I'm using the optima6 lite and love them. My only concern with the minima is loosing telemetry. But I do like the dual antenna's.
