From the IHLGF 2011 Home Page: The following guidelines are provided for pilots considering registering as a sportsman:

A sportsman has not competed in Open class previously.
A 2011 sportsman did not recently win a DLG contest as a sportsman

So .. if Tim and I fly in the Arizona Open, and there is only an Open class, then we're probably no longer Sportsmen.

Tim: Avoid all contests before Poway!
Charles, I am pretty sure that statement applies to having flown in "open class" at a previous IHLGF. I could be wrong though...

Geeze Geezer

I signed up Open Class today. Also, thought that I got registered pretty early, but turned out that I was #14. Looks like there will be a big turn out for 2011.

Oh well, Tim can figure that out - my only option is the Geezer Class (Over 55).

I signed up today - how do you know what your # is?

I flew sportsman last year, and got my butt kicked...er... I mean... I made a BUNCH of bad decisions and placed poorly.

Seeing as how I was qualified for the TS, I figured some people might take issue with me flying sportsman this year, so I signed up in Open.

When I was talking about being #11 today, I went off of the receipt TPG sent to me. That's separate from the receipt you get from PayPal.

I signed up around 8:00pm tonight and had a number of "24" so I don't think it will fill up the first day but it probably won't take long.

Me and pops have decided to make a couple travel cases for our DLG's. Not shipping containers, just some boxes that we can put the planes in to haul around to OOS contests without the hassle of trying to transport the planes assembled. Anybody interested in having a DLG case building party?

Well, the idea was to see if anyone else was interested, we might be able to get a little price break on coroplast if we buy a dozen sheets. I wasn't thinking about going into production with them.

I was thinking something like what TEWATSON built in this thread:
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1168988

But maybe without all the fancy hardware. It'd be nice, but pricing out all the hardware looks to add about $100 to the cost.

I think the coro-shell with some wood spars to add some strength, some salvaged foam to seat the planes in, maybe some velcro to secure stuff inside, and something simple to fasten the lid would be plenty.

If Charles wants to build 3, we're up to 6, total. I thought Guz was interested, too, but we'll have to wait for his reply.

I'd like to have them completed by the weekend of the 8th/9th of JAN, so I have them for me and pops for the JEM.

EDIT: IDK what I was thinking about the price on the hardware. I think, in the past, I might've been looking at all Stainless Steel, or maybe all powdercoated black. I guessed at what items TEWATSON used for his box, and came up with a price of $33.00 before shipping.
