I asked for a red Habicht because of this replica.
http://www.dfs-habicht.de/home%20(engl).htm Anyone aware of where I can get some red canopy coming? |

Hey Guys,
Found this videos you might enjoy... Close formation flying
Every video I've seen of the Habicht is slope soaring. Would this make a very good thermal plane? It's so pretty in the air I'd really like to get one but no slopes within 4 hours of me that I know of. Joe www.thecaterhamproject.com |

Habicht was desinged to be a dedicated acrobatic sailplane. Hanna Reiche was one of the pilots who flew the Habichts at the opening ceremony of the Berlin Olympics before WWII, and drew the olympic symbol in the sky. A cripped wing Habicht was used to train Me163 pilots. A bit of soaring memorabilia.

Secondly, the best way to replicate red cockpit coaming is to use the plastic sheath off electrical wire (+VE) of the correct diameter. Simply cut off the length you require, remove the copper wire strands and then split the plastic tube with a scalpel to make a 'U' section. This can then be easily glued around the cockpit edge.P.S. I'm now eagerly waiting for my 'blue' Habicht and will also post my build and flight experiences in this thread as soon as it lands here in the UK. Anyone up for a couple of interesting conversions? Just take a saw to the wings, a quick paint job and voila, a Stummel Habicht!
