Just an update. As I am still researching and doing my due diligence for diving into the deep end I have the following items now in my "hangar"
RealFlight G4.5 Sim - I picked this one because of my LHS support of the product and Vista compatibility. I was almost ready to pull the trigger on the Phoenix Sim.
DX7 Tx - The choice for the Spektrum brand with the 20 model memory and 2.4 technology was a no brainer. I did not go with the DX6i because of the number of threads regarding the Tx issues and recall. I wasn't going to risk it and I got my DX7 for $166 shipped.
MSR - Some do not consider this a real heli but the fact that I have been able to put what I have learned with Sim time into better operating this little bird makes me more comfortable to move forward into the bigger helis which incur plenty of additional costs.

MCX - Gets no stick time because I use all batteries on the MSR.

My next step is considering the plenty of clones out there and the size that I want to get into. This is still up for debate against getting a HBCP.

Just wanted to give everyone an update.

I hope by the time I have 21 planes/helis, deciding which one to delete will be as difficult as deciding which country I want to vacation in next.

Back from vacation. Will continue working on this thread. What else is missing?

Primer wanted to poll some helis on beginner rating. That is exactly what I was shooting for when I started this. I'll start some polls and get them integrated into this thread.

Added POLL links in the User Rating for each heli. The lower the number the better it is for a complete beginner.
