Thanks Ken. I missed those last 2 links while searching. All of those links are older and no one was using LiPo's back then. What battery sizes should I be looking for and whats a good 70mm fan? Do I want to keep weight lower in plane (batteries in wings) or "Wrapped" around the centerline of fuselage?
Bob, PLEASE do post pics! |

Hi Brad,
The JS1400 is a motor we designed to be a brute and a power house. After the success of the original Jetscream motor (First production outrunner motor for EDF use out to market!), We decided to move on to the 70mm market. In doing so we wanted to make a motor that would take mass power and built like a Mack Truck! Well the JS1400 was just what the doctor ordered. Not only is it tough but it is not expensive. We are running a special right now for this motor at $49.99 We have people running this motor from 3s-6s and to date no returns for burnt motor ![]() Scott |

Not having had one of these (I've eyeballed it for years)I'm guessing but I think if you have two batteries split on either side of the duct you'd be ok, you can still get them fairly low. I always figured I'd need a removable inlet duct so I could get at the internals like nose retracts and such. My favorite Mega22/30/2 with heatsink and Midi puts out about 1600 watts max and would fly this thing pretty darn well, but a smaller Minifan setup with similar power might be ok too and give more room for batteries (don't know if that's needed though).
How small is the inlet area? If you post a pic of it from the front with a ruler held next to it I can import it into cad, trace it, scale it, and measure the area. |

although the speedo was burnt too, might have taken the motor with it.a 6904+JS1400 on 5S would be a great power plant for this plane me thinks. it would have high efflux for it's thrust (in comparison to the same thrust from a 90) so it should scoot pretty good at low throttle settings. |

When was this?? I have not had any returned for being burnt. HL has not sent me any either. I would have to say something was a miss in the system and caused the motor to go. I have seen them ran at over 2000 watts and they are still flying them today. I think this was a rare accurateness and not the norm. They have been bullet proof as far as I knew. Your the first to claim a burnt JS1400. Not bad for the very large amount of these motors out there flying. Scott |

See. I knew I'd like it! What fans and ESC's do you recommend with the JS1400 Scott?

about two days ago. we didn't return it. Bob refunded one for me already, although this particular JS1400 isn't mine. We used parts from another JS1400 that we blew the shaft off to make one that works. If you would like to know the owner of said JS1400, i can PM you his RCgroups handle. Devil brad, the HET6904, wemo minifan pro, and MW400 fans are all good fans for the JS1400. For ESC's, use only castle creations, Pentium, or Turnigy plush, none of the others can handle the high switching rates. I would use a 5S 5000 battery in this plane, with a CC125 esc, 6904 fan, and the JS1400 motor. Be VERY carefull running the 6904 up on 5S, it needs to be well broken in and running smooth. |

Cool to see a thread on this nice flying airframe. It was my intro in fans back in '82-83. The setup I had back then was anemic compared to what is available in electric propulsion today.
Good luck... ![]() Eric B. |

Hmmm... I have a JS1400 looking for a home too...
I'm thinking a JS1400 in a Lander's 69mm Aluminum fan w/ a Minfan Pro Rotor on 5s. Bob, whatcha think?? ![]() Vic |

i bet that would fly it great! more than enough inlet area, and you could get that tail pipe area much more scale.my only real beef with the HOB sabre is the tails dont look right...not swept enough, or somethin.

The good news with the HOB/EJF kit is that you can cut/sand the stabs to be more scale
![]() I did that on mine, although I probably could have taken a little more time on it... The fact that I can do full intake ducting without blow-in doors is REALLY appealing to me! For you guys running a JS1400 on 5s, what kind of #'s we lookin' at? Anybody get a thrust reading? ...got me seriously considering dropping the JS1400 into this bird. Vic |

i haven't personally run one up on 5S, but i beleive it's about 115-120 amps at startup, setting to 105 or so in the Wemo fan. Thrust on a test stand should be +4 pounds, and likely around there installed, maybe more (again, i haven't run any of mine on 5S)

What do you guys use to measure thrust? So a JS1400 it is, CC125 (because I already know their stuff works in the electric car world and my LHS carries it), but uncertain on fan. Pete scared me with his warning on the 6904, LOL. Vic, are you saying you would use the Lander fan unit, but replace the blade with a Mini Pro rotor? What are your guys thoughts on the Schubelers? Looks like they have a 70mm unit coming soon, but are pricey! Where is a good store to buy online from? The EDF stuff seems to be in short supply at the usual A Main and Tower sites I shop on.
