Extra versus Edge

After reading what theKM wrote it's now more difficult for me to decide between the
72" Extra and the 74" Edge.

For me personally it would be the Extra. But true to what Aaron said, it's mostly because I'm already comfortable with the Extra and seem to prefer those over the edges.

But I'm still in the phase of discovering what I really like so...

You have a link for what Aaron said? Never mind I think I found it.

I LOVE my 57" Extra and I think when I'm ready to go bigger the 72" will make its way into my hanger

57" Extra or wait for the 59" Slick. Just missed the sale! :-( He who hesitates! I have and love my 48" Edge. Any opinions on this or the slick? want something a little heavier feeling that I can still run on 4S. Bummed that I was late on the trigger with the slick.

I haven't flown the 59" Slick. But I have flown the 48" Edge and the 57" Extra and I can tell you without a doubt that you will love the 57" Extra.

I'm sure the 59" Slick is a lot of fun too but you just hear a lot of mixed reviews on it as opposed to the 57" Extra that gets nothing but praise (I should say rather that I haven't heard anyone say that they do not like this plane).

So my vote would be for the 57" Extra.

Thanks guys. The boys at HeadsupRC recommend an E max motor with following numbers-
Propeller data for the GT4020 700kv using a 4-cell Lipo battery:

APC 15 x 8E: 133 oz thrust at 55 amps (830 watts)

With a Sky Power 80A ESC. I use the Sky Power 60A on my 48" Edge with the Omega 130 and it is very nice. The Hacker A40-12S is out of stock at 3DHS.

This E max motor is only about $50 so I figured I'd give it a try. The guys at Heads up have been good to me.

Opinions. I know the Motrolfly is getting alot of press for these planes lately.

I want to stay with 4S.

It was just as easy and drama free as you would expect from this plane. Thanks for the reassurance that the AR peg was OK. Those tumbles yesterday showed that its perfectly fine.

With the Hacker A40-10S motor, Castle Ice 75Amp ESC, 15x7 APC prop, and 225MG's all around and a Nano 4 cell 4000mah had the plane fly light on this setup. As this was the first time I have flown a 3D plane over 48 inches I figured I would offer my observations.

Things appear much slower as the plane gets bigger. This translates to a relaxed feeling flying the bigger plane. I see the plane reacting sooner and don't feel like I'm mentally chasing behind the plane but instead I'm waiting for it. I really like how this plane performs a blender. The flat spin ending was amazingly tight. Hovering and HA flight was like I was on a simulator with the speed turned down. Even pattern stuff like simple 4 point rolls and KE flight was super simple. I've been looking at this plane for a few years and finally picked it up. Glad I did. I totally enjoy it.

With my observation that bigger is better, I now wonder about that 71" Slick electric. (It's a sickness) For now I will be enjoying the 57.
Hi, it sounds like you and I are on the same track. I have and love my 48" Edge and was seriously looking at the sale on the 59" Slick. Hesitated too long and missed out and now I am on this 57" Extra. I've been interested in an Extra 330 since flying them on the sim. I also was concerned about the AR pins on the Edge and have been wringing the crap out of it with no signs of a problem. Headsuprc has set me up with a E max 700kv motor and 15x8 prop that will put out 850 Watts and pulls 55 A with an 80 A Sky Power ESC. I think that will be a nice punch for this plane. Have you flown it without the SFGs? Just curious how it does without them.

Good luck with yours. I agree on the flying days in fall in New England, I'm in NH and have been stealing an hour here and there in between rain. How does this do in wind? I was flying the Edge in gusts to 25 the other day and it was fun but a little floaty as you can imagine. Hope to have a box at the house soon when I decide on the color!

Get a Recommended Hacker or a Motrolfly. You need around 1100-1200 Watts on a 15x6 - 15x8 to have fun with this plane... 4S 4000 20-30C will work.
