I need to upgrade from the HS 225s also. But some have identified some problems with the HS 5245s and I tried the HS 5245s on another plane.

What are the JR, Airtronics, and Savox equivalents of the HS 5245 servos?

I've been really impressed with the 5245's on 6v!

That's been my concern, because I have heard issues with them.

I've got 6V set right now. I just don't feel I get that much throw out of them. I'm going to check it tonight.

In addition to not enough throw I'm getting blow back on the elevator with the HS 225 servo and I have my CC 75 Amp ESC set to 6v output to the servos.

Anyone have suggestions for a digital equivalent to the HS 5245 MG that works on the 57" Extra 330 SC?

That seems odd, I've got an HS225HB in the elevator on mine, and I'm getting 60-65 of throw, and I haven't noticed any blowback. I've got a Hitec long arm on the servo though.

See http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=589365 for a modification on the HS 5245. But wouldn't it be better/best if the servo worked well right out of the box with no need for modification?

plenty of people use the 5245 right out of the box just fine. Extreme Flight and 3dhs both recommend it in their 57-60" models. Now that doesn't mean you should use it simply because they do. But to say the 5245 doesn't work well out of the box is inaccurate. I know several people using them just fine without modification. Based on what I've read on this forum, only a few folks here have had case problems with the 225mg and hitec took care of it. Note that these folks are exceptional pilots who possess more capability and put more demands on the 225mg than 95% of us here.

Ive actually been wanting to try the solar mini servos, have heard good things about them. other than that all your other options are $60+ i wish we could fit full sized servos in these. i would just say screw it and throw ds610/savox 1258tg servos in and call it a day. the extra weight wouldn't be that bad and they would fit in my 70" planes after i crash

Thanks for the recommendation. Where can I get these solar mini servos?

Yes, titanium gear servos would bring out the best in the plane.

Guys if you fly hard you will need to do the case mod for the 5245s. Well all of hitecs servos that size need it as they all have the same case. I have killed more of these servos b/c of the case failing and locking up my servos than I care to think about. The mod is a good one and works great..
With all that said if you don't fly really hard you most likely will not have an issue. Though it does give you piece of mind.

Anyone got a link or info on this "case mod?" I'm on my iPhone, and don't want to search for it...

Thanks for weighing in on the HS 5245 issue. What servo(s) do you recommend to replace rather than modify the HS 5245?

You're in great company. Joe Smith weighed in on another issue over in the 87" Extra SHP thread.
