I agree. My 6s 5000 setup is about where it is in that pic. Maybe a bit more forward. Flys neutral inverted.

Reminds me of the build last summer: I put the 6S 5000 where it looked to be in the picture too. The Slick balanced right away which was the fastest CG set-up of all my ARFs! I also marked another spot for a 6S 3900 but never flew that batt.

It is a little scary that mine seems to balance perfectly where my 6S pack is positioned in the picture. I balanced it at 160mm right at the wing spar.

We are talking a good 3" if I moved it to the location that seems to be working for everyone else.

I guess there is only one way to find out. Looks like the weather will be good for a maiden tomorrow.

The Slick, as well as most 3DHS planes, has a broad CG. As long are your equipments are where others put theirs, you'd be good to go .

Maidened the slick today! First time flying a big plane and first time flying a gasser. It was awesome! I need to mess with my throttle curve a bit. It seems like full power at about 40% throttle.

not expo but throttle curves

mostly on gassers but even some electrics

the problem with throttle is that it isnt quite the same as surfaces. With control surfaces we want them a little softer around center and then allow us to use full deflection.

With the throttle you want to have the most resolution in the band that matters the most to you and sometimes you may need to cancel out some peculiar throttle response in certain areas

on my 57 i use a throttle curve pretty much only to tame the power. I would be hovering at about 1/3 throttle and i moved that to about 1/2 throttle stick

on my 87 the engine has a little sag at the beginning where it doesnt quite catch on which i skip with a curve and then use the curve the other way to even out throttle response (kind of an odd shaped inverted s)

On throttle also, don't set your endpoint till you totally max out the carb at WOT and bind the servo arm. That kills your resolution. Set it to where it's just BARELY at WOT on full power.

I was looking at this 70" Slick, or the EF 70" Extra for an powerplant I have laying around... but noticed that on 3dhs' site it list them as "not for sale". Does anyone know why?

Next, I am new to electric power, but dove head first into a 2m pattern plane and love it. The extra powerplant I have is a Plettenberg Extra 30-10 evo and a Ice HV 80. I am looking for an airfame that will be less than 11lbs. The motor is 550g, and will pull 1700w on a 20x10 on 10s, and can be propped to 3500w. I was checking batts and found 10s 3000 weights the same as 6s 5000. Could this powerplant suit this size plane well??

The 70 slick is listed not for sale b/c its getting a new scheme and haveing a few tweeks done to it.

That should work with a 10S 3000 to keep weight similar.

You can also put that to the 72" SC and it's be a perfect match as well.

Heck Im flying the 72SC with an 8s 5000mah set up and it 3d very well and is still very floaty. I am going to set up a 70 slick with a 8s 4000mah setup

I was hoping this would be the case.

I am having a hard time loving the SC's color scheme....
