Weighed my plane today. Man has it gained weight from when l first got it. Its new 10lbs and 8oz. That with the 7954 servos, hv 120 esc, bec pro, 5320 motor, some heavy 3 1/4 wheels from the lhs, and 2 gen ace 60c 4000mah 4s lipos. Oh forgot some repairs too as lm sure that added weight.
It started out at 9lbs 13ozs with the same esc and bec, 7985servos, 4325 motor, stock wheels, an gen ace 25c 4k 4s lipos.
Anyways l have my slick all ready to fly so l can test out the new servos but the dang hurricane his holding me up. Stupid crappy weather.

I thought you were using an Ice 100. You still think my Ice 100 will be OK with that same setup right??

quick fix

If you have built enough of these planes I am sure you have had the wood breakout where the control horn slots are in one of the surfaces?? When you are installing the horns, the balsa breaks out.....

Whats a good fix for securing the control horns after this happens? On my last build, the control horn kept coming loose after the fact.

Thanks

What kind of adhesive are you using? I use epoxy and I have had no problems with control horns coming loose. Make sure you scuff the sides of the horns before you insert them with 100 grit sand paper..

If you are talking about the sheeting in between the two horns breaking out when fitting the horns, I just CA it back in, then as noted using a good "slathering" of 30 minute epoxy... Once I insert the horns if there is any excess epoxy that has squeezed out, I wipe it off with alcohol....

I use epoxy and have never had issues except the other time I broke out all of the balsa that the horns slide into. The problem is that the wood broke into tiny pieces. Last time the horn came loose after thick layers of epoxy mixed with milled fiberglass were applied.

I did try this again, though I think I did a more thorough job. Hope it sticks.

Oooooh man i need to get some money for my slick. It is awaiting servos and a motor. I'm having a tough time walking by the plane everyday and not being able to finish it. Hopefully i'll get it done before Christmas.

Don't worry you will. If I can get my MXS up by then you can get the slick up and running too.

My brother flys harder than l do and he has use the ice 100 since he got his slick. So a few hundred flights with the 5320 and before that a few hundred with the 4325. With a 19x8 prop the 4325 pulls more current than the 5320. He has the same esc and 4325 in his velox with the 19x8 prop right now and still no issues.

Orange 71" Slick.

Looks like I got a good bond with the thickened 30 min. epoxy. I filled in the hole with some baking soda and CA.
