Question
Glow plugs for OS, GMS, ASP, Evolution and SuperTigre?

Hi everyone,

I have a few glow engines for which I would like to buy a few extra glow plugs just in case, but there are so many out there and I really don't know which ones to get. I have:

a Evolution .46 two stroke,
a SuperTigre .51 two stroke,
a GMS .76 two stroke,
a ASP .91 four stroke,
a OS AX .46 two stroke

Could anybody suggest some decent glow plugs I could get for these engines? Thanks for the help.

K&B long and the Fox Miracle plug for the 4 cycle or any of the 2 cycle engine that still won't transition well. For use in Schnuerle ported engines (what you have) avoid glow plugs with an idle bar. Idle bars should only be used with the old baffle engines! Idle bars disrupt flame propagation across the combustion chamber. This isn't a problem with the old baffle engine as that baffle already does this!

To be truthful my recommendation is of little or no value taken out of context. The proper plug will change depending on the humidity (New Orleans vs Los Angeles) altitude (Chicago vs Denver) load (prop size i.e. RPM) and fuel (%nitro and oil).
I like to buy a whole range of plugs Such as the Rossi brand and then fine tune the engine using the proper plug. This is more than what most sport flier are willing to do (or pay for). My recommendations cover most sport application very well, are cheep and some of the money stays here at home. The only OS plug I like is the "F" . The #8 is good put there are many other that work just as well if not better in the same heat range.

Thanks for the suggestions. I ordered a few of the suggested plugs to have some options. I live in the south, so the weather is usually hot and humid. Not sure what that means for my glow plugs though.

OS#8 for the 2-strokes, OS-F for the 4-stroke.

That's pretty much all I use and have zero problems with any of my engines.

I've recently tried the ASP "GP-1" 2/4-stroke plug in my 2-strokes and I have to say that it's pretty damned good so far. In fact, it's cleaned up the mid-range (a little) on my ASP/Magnum .52XLS engines.

With OS plugs costing so much these days, I may be buying a few more of these ASP plugs.

I bought an ASP #4 plug some time ago (even cheaper than a Taipan plug) but have no idea now what its heat range is. Any clues XJet?

I don't know -- but I do know that their #5 is classified as "cold" so I expect that the #4 may be medium and the #3 hot?

The proper/best glow plug sometimes can break down to just be a personal preference. I try to economize as I am on SS and a part time job at a LHS. I fly a variety of two strokes on 5% nitro ranging from an OS 32F to an ST S2000/25cc with a few Magnums and ST's in between and am happy with the Thunderbolt Heavy Duty plug. Plus they are less expensive than OS, McCoy, and a few others.
