Short Race Report

I exceeded my expectancy (semis) was on target with my hopes (finals) but didnt reach my dreams(Top 5) . It was a great race. I met a lot of people I have either only heard of before or know over the internet. It was a great athmosphere and a lot of laughing. I was so happy the english team was beside ours they are all such nice guys. Symon and Roki are great they helped me a lot and they are joking all the time.

I arrived Sunday midday and started testing... driving laps, laps, laps......
wont go into detail... by thursday I had the rain and dry bike set up and felt okay... I just knew at that moment that the bike had reached its limits and I had to drive with my brain switched on to keep it going. I had a lot of trouble under braking, the fork bottoming out and bending backwards under braking locking out.... not nice but I never really had to drive so hard brakes before...

Anyway by Saturday I was in the Semi Finals... I couldnt believe it I really got that far.. ...top 20....

First SEMI:
Start went okayish think I lost a position... but after a few laps I was in second place.... and coming closer to Zonzini in first place. I was thinking to myself, this cant be true he must have had some trouble... I watched what he was doing and I felt I could go faster so I started to push behind him, afterwards he said he let me pass because he couldnt keep the pace and didnt want to get into trouble. The bike felt well and I went safe and backed up a bit just to keep in front of the second I was sure I was going to win the first Semi. Then about 5 Laps before the end under braking it just crashed. I knew something was broken because at that moment I was just giving 90%. Afterwards I saw a screw I hadnt checked was loose and the steering damper was off. I managed to nurse the bike home and came in 7th... bummer...

Second Semi:
Sunday morning. Coolish weather. Already sure that I would be packing after the run I was bloody tired and had enough of it all. Nothing much to report about the race, somehow I managed to come in 2nd. Wasnt nice to drive I was sure that was it, but lucky me qualified for the Finals on 9th position....

Today I looked at the times.... I ~could~ have qualified as 3rd or 4th.... crazy.

Finals....
I was powerd out couldnt concentrate , didnt want to concentrate, just have fun... I could kick my ass now because I could have been better.....if I just had not given up ....

Okay I am under the top ten and thats good. The bike needs a lot of upgrades, its not consistent enough for a high speed track. Guess I will go back to the drawing board once I have decided that I really want to continue this here....

Hi Edi,

It was great to meet you and the rest of the TT team again...a great bunch of guys.......you did really well,mixing it up with the best drivers in the world...and your bike is brilliant!!!...

your hair must be looking great, now you have the bendy foam hair rollers!!.......get back in your workshop and start building the mother of all bikes for the mother of all RC tracks in switzerland!!!..........me and rocket roki will see you there!!!

Improvements

After I have sat around thinking and recalling the fiasco from Grenoble for a while I have come to following conclusion:

I need a new bike

The already finished design for the Generation 7 Bike has been disposed of.

The new Bike will be the Generation 8 "JABBER 2011 Lostallo".

Punch list:

1.) Much improved chassis stiffness
2.) New Fork
3.) Improved Steering Spring Assembly
4.) Improved Steering Damper Assembly
5.) Weight target 1750-1800g
6.) Longer Wheelbase
7.) Fine tuned Steering Angle
8.) Improved Front brake Assembly
9.) Beefed up Swingarm Pivot
10.) Stronger Motors
11.) Special Tire Inserts
12.) Different Gearing

After people questioning me on and on...... here is following Information:

I am a Thunder Tiger RC-Bike Team sponsored Designer/Mechanic/Driver.
I make the "dreams" of the drivers come true when they have ideas for tuningparts for their SB5s.

I personally drive my own Bike you all now as the JABBER its my personal bike I developed for myself.

As a lot wanted to know what I used in Grenoble:

Bike: "JABBER 2010.2 (Generation 6)"
+ a lot of Thunder Tiger SB5 parts to complete the Bike
Fork: Patrick AllevenRC CroMo Fork ("out of the box")

Motor: CS-Electronics 9T Delta (6900kV) with smaller rotor
ESC: CS-Electronics Rocket Competition (especially fine tuned to the needs of a bike)
Batteries: Reedy #685 5000mAh 40C+ Lipos
(all together giving a whopping but easy to control 113kph top speed )

You did an excellent job driving!WAAAAAAY better than i could have done.I was watching some of the lines you were taking.As you were setting up to pass another bike.That was great stuff,you showed lots of patients and made the moves accordingly.GREAT STUFF!

500th Anniversary

*LOL* I guess I am boring you with this....
Today I drove the 500th Lipo charge with a JABBER this year!
.....and learning more every time.
Today for example:
What has the most impact on the ability of a bike to drift/slide out of a turn under power?! It really pissed me off that I had trouble with this in Grenoble.

Apart from a not too grippy rear tire: Front Wheel weight, steering spring preload and strength. I had a too strong spring in my steering. This made the bike "stand up" out of a turn to quickly. You can see that in the 180 turn in front of the cam on the above videos quite well.

Last Race of the "RC-BIKE ONROAD CUP 2010" in Salzburg.
Had a great Weekend.... won the Race. Guess I also won
the Superbike Category for this year. Not sure,.... dont quite know
how its counted together. I also took the fastest Quali and fastetst
Lap with a 25.004sec (in the second Final).
Up to now I think I took the fastest (official) Lap on every track I
turned up at (exept Grenoble 5th fastetst). Not bad for a first season.
Next Weekend we will have a first Clubrace at my hometrack. And
the last race for this season will be in Lostallo 3.Oct.

Here is the reason why I have been quiet around here for a short while.

Next Weekend we are going to Lostallo for a Friendship sort of pre Warmup thingy Funrace Open GP Bike....I am really looking forward to this "Mother of all Tracks" how symon called it. Wonder if I can keep the tires on the rims down the straight. I have improved the front brakes and will be driving a long wheelbase version of the bike I used in Grenoble. For the adequate amout od speed I will be trying a 8T Delta Wound GM Powerplant (7500KV).
On my home track its impossible to handle this Monster. When I downgear it overrevs (squals and chokes after about 10m of acceleration) When I have the proper gearing it wheelies down the straight never reaching the top until I have to pull the bakes (actually I need a anchor to stop the bike). When I have this motor in my bike I have the feeling the bike sulks at me.

Just to say it:......555th Lipo anniversary.....
...tried the 8T Delta again on my home Track....
...thinking all the time: why am I doing this? ....
...oh!!... and I toasted a ESC ...
...flipped polarity for the first time...
...since I drive bikes...
...damn I could kick my ass for the rest of the day...
...over all I am making my babysteps day by day...
...found a few tiny tweaks here and there...
...hope the weather is okay for lostallo this weekend....
...last season race....
...then I will throw all the bikes away...
...and start the new one for 2011...
