You guys need to try to understand that Sandy is a defender of the "status quo". A while back when the Leader Members were voting on term limits he must have had 5 different threads on why this was a bad idea...... well we know which side prevailed on that one. Now Sandy lives in Muncie and last time I looked Indiana was not in District 10........... Not sure why he has a dog in this hunt, is there a "old guard" AMA'er also running against Lawrence in the election?

But I am uncomfortable with the idea of voting for someone simply because they are new or not the incumbent. If that is the only criteria then let's simply have a single term limit and that way each election we guaranteed to have new guys. But keep in mind that I also think that voting for someone simply because they are the incumbent is no better. Every candidate needs to be evaluated on the strength of their experience and vision for the future. I am hoping to get a better understanding of where Mr. Tougas is coming from when he is on SOCAL next week. |

You know something Silent-AV8R ? Ive always thought single term limits could work out great in politics because there is never a shortage of people who want those jobs . Now in our situation with the AMA do you think there could be enough new people each election to fill all the seats ? What happens when everyone who wants to serve has done so and no one new wants the position ? I must admit Im not too sure of all the ramifications of term limits and thats why I ask .

Defender of Staus quo-. Exactly my point about old guys. Most of them think like this. I'm very old you know but will hate staus quo till I meet the maker. I assume Status quo doesn't exist in Heaven but rules in Hell. I know nothing about electric contest rules but will venture a guess that Speed 400's and nicads rule. A123's never ever. Needs to be an age restriction in politics. Nothing good ever came from being very old you know. I'm a perfect example.

Wow, what a thread, I had someone once jump on me saying that there was no ego's in the AMA.
I am 46, have started a few companies (that were all successful), and still have a great family, managed to build RC, and still take vacations . I have a great company that has me flying over 100,000 miles a year and still find time for all that stuff, you want to know how, it's because I am not a old fart, that has given up learning anything. The younger you are sometimes gives you a huge edge on what you can take on. At 46 I still run 1 company, work for another and still put in about 20 hours a week on my 257" B-36D project, and still had time to see "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs" yesterday with my 7 year old girl. I have seen many older people work just as many hours and have just as much fun as I do, but to say someone younger is not qualified in it'self is showing so many of us what is wrong with our AMA, and its system of thinking. This is unreal that a AMA officer would say such things about someone who loves the AMA so much to devote their time and life to it. I live in Indiana and love my district guys, but this is just depressing seeing a AMA officer make statements like this. I work all the time with people of all ages, but guess what, the old farts are getting fired because they are not open to fresh ways of thinking, and in this world that!, is the only way to be successful. If you live up to your word, I would vote for you (if I were in your district), or anyone that loves this hobby, and wants to contribute to making it better, more fun, and promoting model aviation to all. Excellent post. How true. A funny thing occurs in life. Remember how long a hour was in Church or School when you were 5? A 3 minute speech when you were 8? Time, for some reason, moves exponentially as you age. Your life reminds me of mine when I was young. Amazing how much one can get done when young. Now, I'm very old you know, the grim reaper is lurking in the nearer and nearer future As I write this it is 10AM. My day is just starting even tho I rose at 8AM.. In a blink of an eye it will be time to go to bed. Nothing gets done anymore and a short project turns into months. I used to build a model in a few days. Now it takes weeks or months. Been trying to remodel my shop and the project stretches on and on. Drat. Half done models sit covered with dust. The boat needs work for winter and the grass needs mowing before the dog and Grandkids gets lost in it. Some times it gets so long I find dinosaur bones in it. So remember how precious time is and use it accordingly. Old guys generally won't admit this fact of life and get very defensive when asked What did you get done this week? Time to retire when that happens. Young guys always think there is lots of time in a day and the future is over the horizon , far away.. Before you know it your kids are grown and have kids of their own never thinking about growing old. Can't stop life's Tick tock`. |

AMA is just like the US Congress...Once you get rid of all the old people in charge an get some younger fresh blood, I bet things will improve. And this is coming from an old guy here...

My only point was that some people seem to be supporting Tougas simply because he is not the incumbent. I think that is a poor reason. Support should be based on experience and vision as I said above. |

Absolutely. Age shouldn't play a factor in it. I do wonder how much time someone that works full time can commit to a position like this. I hope it doesn't ruin his family life. But kudos to anyone wanting to give it a go. I know there is no way I could do it. Work keeps me busy enough. Frank |

Not only do I wish Great luck to those who can donate their time , I also truly understand the lifes responsibilitys that make helping impossible for others . As long as we all try to present a friendly image for us and the AMA to the general public we will be doing our best for aircraft modeling . Happy Flying
