EFFLUX RC.....F-16 maiden flight.....YEAH BABY!!

That was the right question Rodger. How'd you know? Hmmmm.

We maidened the Skyworld powered F-16 today.......4 flights total.
Cory - Test Pilot
Benny - Videography
Gary - Launch and Still photos

First the bad news.....We hoped to get IN FLIGHT Eagle Tree data. but the recorder was a new facoty replacement that I got 6 months back. Oops...I never set the parameters for it to record. Dooh! We will refly it with the eagle tree again.
The set up flew very well.....OK, it was pretty fast for a drop in solution. It's sounds very nice for a 70 mm unit. Not like a 90 or 120mm jet but definatlry not like a moscuito on speed. the jet flew very well. Mind you this jet is heavily reinforced with plywood and carbon fiber, the Fiberglassed. The AUW was 2lbs 5.6 oz before adding the Eagle Tree. So take that into account when you see it fly. This fan will push a quality T-45 or L-39 around with plenty of power....Vertical performance was great. I set the exhaust dia to a conservative 85% FSA. so there's plenty of room for added speed by reducing it to 75-80%.... Yeah that's what I like.
I got the raw video imported to my PC. After editing the F-16, you will see the ENTIRE Flight, uncut, from launch to landing.
The reponse from the folks at the field was overwhelming. One guy asked where to send the payment for his. And another guy bought two complet sets. I went to maiden a jet. not sell EDFs. the power system spoke for it's self. dispite the Eagle Tree Glitch. It was a very successful afternoon. We stayed at the field until 8:30pm just talking about the day.
Here's the setup that was flown:

Modified and glassed, HP, F-16
Skyworld 70mm EDF with Skyworld 3600kv inrunner
CC 80A ESC
CC BEC
Flight Power 30c, 3200mAh 4s
Spektrum AR6200
HS 65MG
efflux dia: 2.23 (85% FSA)

VIDEO COMING SOON..

BTW...Just for heck of it. I'll do a Doppler and post it.
the winds were 10-15mph. so I'll have to do upwind and downwind passes

Here's the video guys.

efflux RC F 16 maiden flight 0002 (4 min 43 sec)

The upwind speed was 81mph (at 0.31)
The downwind speed was 101mph (at 1:36)
the average speed was 91mph

Batts were still cold, but the approaches were fairly level.

Please note this jet was originally being build for one of my hot rod setups and is a heavier airframe @ 2lb 5.6oz AUW....over kill for this setup. But the skyworld setup should push something like a 70mm T-45, qiuie nicely.

Just for kicks... the downwind pass (out of a dive) at 0:44 was 118mph

The flight was 4 min long. I put 2215mA back into the 3200mAh pack. we only used 69%. So 5 min flights should be just fine.

I will run it up on the eagle tree this weekend.

gary, dont be too hard on yourself...the basin really isnt a great place for ef speed. i flew my 90mm sabre there on friday(cory eas there ) and it sure seemed slower than when i fle wit in the dry desert air the week before and it went 150mph. no way it was doing that at the basin...and i added gear doors the air down there is so humid, it hurts in the speed dept. looked great. has a differnt sound at 1200W. almost think it sounds better at 700W ill test 2 of them for you..

Brent, humidity helps your speed But not as much as air density We were at Edwards near 3500' so it will always be faster up there.

the lake bed is 2300 but with some heat your looking at 3500 ish Alt density. i think the different sound is a function of messed up air from the cheaters ..off the power it was really quiet. sounded like a indy car at WOT ..gary did you factor in the 8 blades for the doppler?

Blade count only matters for RPMs not speed

Too bad I missed ya. I could have video'd it for ya, then dopplered it, to get a speed from 500 FT ASL. It Prob does 135 down here.
Let me know the next time your coming to the Basin to fly it.
